No. 1 Chinese Restaurant

Some of the other reviews had me worried to try this place but pretty much everything we ordered was delicious. We will definitely be ordering from here again! My favorite dishes were the Steamed Dumplings, the Chicken Wings, and the Veggie Lo Mein. The Pu Pu Platter was a good value & sampling of the appetizers, most of which were also very tasty. I personally wasn’t a fan of the Crab Rangoons but that seems to be a matter of different regional styles and tastes so I’m not holding that against any local Chinese place. Rangoons are usually pinched together at the top creating a pouch of filling topped with a wonderfully crunchy “X” shape of fried wonton. Here, at every restaurant I’ve been to they are wrapped into triangles that have a weird, soggy, hard to chew yet not crunchy texture. If you haven’t had that style before I’d recommend ordering the Pu Pu Platter to try a few to see if you like them before committing to a full order. I ordered delivery through DoorDash. My order was fulfilled quickly, arrived hot, fresh, and was packaged well. They even staple the individual containers as well as the bag to make sure your order isn’t tampered with!

12 Dec 21, I went in the restaurant to order food for my elderly neighbor. The counter lady accidentally gave my food to another customer. Accidents happen so i wasn't bothered by that and they were in the process of making a fresh order. While waiting on them to remake the order, the lady who had the wrong order returned and gave the food back to the lady behind the counter. She took the food in the back and a few minutes later came out and handed me a bag. I thought it was the fresh food that they were remaking, until I got in the car. I kept smelling perfume and it smelled like the customer in the store. i opened the bag and touched the containers and they were luke warm. I called back to the restaurant to let them know that I knew what they did with the food. The lady on the phone kept telling me she made the food fresh and that she did not give me the food the other customer returned. All of that was an absolute LIE! Not only did the plastic bag smell like the other customer, the original receipt was in the bag! BEWARE WHO KNOWS WHAT OTHER UNSANITARY PRACTICES THEY HAVE!!!

Do NOT expect to receive any customer service here. I asked if they would consider delivering to a location where they would receive multiple orders a day, several days a week. It was met with a hostile no! As I was asking something else, the lady behind the counter just walked off. I also placed my order online. I was given a 15 to 20 minute window to pick up. I came after 45 minutes and still had to wait 15 minutes. The food is okay but basically generic. If you just need something to eat this is fine. Looking for something good go somewhere else.

After eating there for years….despite grumpy customer service, in the last two months our beef lo-me in suddenly has little meat and we don’t think it’s beef. We realize that inflation is making life difficult for everyone that eats, but it’s funny we can go to No. 1 China in Clemmons and have lots of beef that looks and tastes like beef. We will not be going back to the University location.
