Prime Chophouse & Lounge

I had the pleasure of eating here twice while visiting this week. The first time was for my mothers birthday. I would consider it a 5-star experience. The filet was delicious and cooked to perfection. I personally do not care for the green beans , they are tough and undercooked. My mother has never had bananas foster so we ordered the table-side bananas foster. The chef that cooked it was interesting and told us of the history while cooking it. It was delicious. It was a great experience for my mom who had never had it. After discussing this restaurant at the birthday party and learning that a few more family members had never tried this restaurant or banana foster I decided to take them. The steak was delicious and this time I had the risotto, which was fabulous. I also tried the macaroni and cheese, I’m not sure what cheeses are all in it but I would rate it as good, not the best. I’m not sure what I didn’t love, but something. It was strong and maybe a little sweet for me. For dessert we ordered the cream brûlée and bananas foster for my guests. After a little bit the waitress came our and said the bananas foster would be made in the back and not table-side. I feel this is unsatisfactory. If it’s advertised as table side it should be cooked table side (as this us part of the whole experience and one of the reasons I chose to take my guests there). The waitress told me first the cart was broken then said something about the burner being broke. She said something about it being broke since Monday. I feel this should have been conveyed when dessert menus were given. I also feel that it’s poor management to not have the cart up and running since Monday. Amarillo has enough hardware stores, restaurant-supply stores or even 2-day shipping with Amazon to not have a cart for the table-side menu items. In all fairness, she did come back with $6 off our ticket, while it was appreciated and unexpected I still wanted the experience for my guests. As a business owner myself, I feel Monday to Thursday is plenty of time for cart repair or replacement.

A big city experience in Amarillo. Great atmosphere and good service. Surprisingly quiet for a Saturday early evening. I had the “Goldilocks” cocktail with a large ice block (my favorite) and my party enjoyed a Moscow mule and a gin martini. Very well made libations. We shared several small appetizer and they we all delicious with lovely presentation. I highly suggest a trip to the outskirts.

Would leave no stars if possible. Arrived on a Saturday evening, not terribly busy, but had a 30 to 45 minute wait. Cool, we went to the bar... but then it took 20 minutes to even get noticed then received a drink menu.. before we could order a drink we were seated at a table. Great, sooner than expected... but then we waited at the table for 20 minutes to be served... no waiter/waitress to be seen, didn’t even receive any water. We decided to leave and we remain parched to this day. The Metropolitan had us seated, drinks in hand and an appetizer on the way in less than five minutes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Pretty decent spot, but still have a long ways to go to be a quality "fine-dining" restaurant. I would rate it as being more on the casual-side of higher end dining. Not much professionalism among the staff (hosts and servers), but they are amicable. Attitudes are much more informal as opposed to formal, which is fine but not what one would quite expect from a higher-end steakhouse. Food and drinks are pretty solid so no real complaints there, especially for the price. This is among the more affordable higher-end options. Ticket times were considerably long for all aspects of the dining experience, ranging from the time it took for our drinks and appetizer to arrive, to the time it took for our entrees to arrive. What should have been about an hour-long dining experience ended up taking about two hours when all was said and done, and this was on a relatively mild night. Probably just a result of being a relatively new restaurant working out the kinks, but still something to consider for those not wanting an extended dining experience.

The food was awful! We ordered crab cakes terrible who puts carrots in crab cakes! Larry ordered prime rib it was the worse prime rib! I order the rib eye it was tough and not seasoned! I substituted a baked potato which they charged me an extra $4.00 the potato was not warm enough to melt butter hard as a rock! This is over priced for the quality of food! Concrete floors warehouse decor not worth the money! Do not eat here! Very disappointed!

We tried Prime Chophouse for the first time tonight for our anniversary. Maybe it was just an off night, but we did not enjoy our experience here. When we first came in, we waited for a bit before a waitress asked if we’d been helped. We told her no, and she disappeared to find the hostess. She finally came back and said she couldn’t find her, so she seated us and told us she would be our server. She poured us some water and took our drink order, then disappeared again for quite a while. We ordered an appetizer, them once again, she disappeared for a long time. When our food came out, the order was messed up and the food was just okay. (Husband has the crab-stuffed lobster and I had the garlic shrimp pasta) She acknowledged that it was not a great night and told us the fire alarms were going off earlier (glad we missed that). I would be reluctant to try it again given the mediocre service and food for the price.
