Bunch Of Grapes Hotel

Dined here Saturday night 25th June. We couldn't eat/finish our food, all dishes were bland and dry. To the point that I'm sure my dish was mutton shank, definitely not lamb. Kids area has great potential but simply neglected. Staff seem unhappy to be there. We got a jug of lemon lime bitters, big mistake, it was overly strong being mostly bitters so that was wasted too. Only positive was ease of parking access. Won't return.

Lunch with several past colleagues, on a sunny winter Tuesday. The Bistro had a very clean pleasant appearance and I enjoyed being there. Friendly staff and good service. The meals from the lunch menu where good value with a glass of wine, beer or soft drink. One in the group had the pork ribs from the main menu which looked great, thought he was going to devour the rib bones as well. We all had a great lunch and I will go back.

We dined here on a Thursday night with our family when it wasn't particularly busy. The pub is located in Newington and is in a historic building. The good: - good selection of beer and wine, but not outstanding - service was reasonable - fit out is pleasant and reasonably modern - sticky date pudding, pumpkin gnocchi, kids Hawaiian pizza and chips were all fine. Not earth shatteringly amazing, but good pub fare. The not so good: - the place had this weird harmonic vibration that really annoyed us. I thought it was just me but when I asked others they all said it was bugging them. - the lamb shank was just OK and wasn't cooked for long enough or slow enough as it was still quite chewy with crunchy celery - dead give away it hasn't been done right. - when we arrived we were seated directly under a TV blaring MTV's Hottest 50 Most Pit songs. As you can imagine, it made it very hard to hear each other. Thankfully, as the place started to get a few more patrons in the volume was turned down. Not to our taste: - the apple and rhubarb crumble was OK, but sickly sweet.
