Sumo Japanese Steakhouse And Sushi Bar

Visiting from out of town and looking for a place to get something good to eat. Was greeted with a smile and my waitress (Detra?) was super nice and gave me some great suggestions. Portions were nice, food was hot and fresh. Will certainly make this a staple food place whenever I visit this area now!

12-8-2020. REMOVED the stars. NOT HAPPY, revisited with my husband today. Were greeted and seated. Waited for 10 minutes, no one came to the table. The restaurant had 6 tables with food already and was not busy at all. 2 people at the entrance 1 waiter that totally ignored us. The other waitress was sitting with guests talking and 3 were standing around with take out orders. After me getting up asking I was told this is your waiter which only handled 1 table with 3 people and totally ignored us. We walked out and went to koi sushi and what a delight. The decor and restaurant it set up very beautifully. I was greeted promptly and I requested to sit at the sushi bar. The bartender was my server. She was friendly but very reserved. The miso soup was nicely filled with seaweed and tofu. The salad was fresh but the dressing tasted like the yum yum sauce. Too much majo and hardly any ginger and was missing the vinegar. I ask if this really was the salat dressing and guess it was. The chirashi was fantastic, the pieces of fish were the right size and well displayed in the bowl. I asked for pickled ginger, ponezu and wasabi which were served by the sushi chef promptly. I also had the special heikito (spell) roll, which I can only highly recommend. The smoked seaweed is a rare delight and the roll is stuffed with lots of fish and fish eggs. Note: the food and sushi chef reserves 5 stars.

I may be a little spoiled coming from the Seattle area, but even they have not so great Japanese restaurants. This is the first Japanese place I've tried in the area, so take this review with a grain of salt. The food was okay. The service was decent. The domestic drink list is much larger than the Japanese list and most of the ethnic items were out of stock. The hibachi looks more like a tourist attraction than the real thing. The sushi was not very attractive both visually and in flavor. I wouldn't recommend this place. If you're looking for good Japanese drinks and food, this isn't the place you want.

I ordered a hibachi chicken because I am allergic to shrimp...when ordering by phone...you cant see the menu. well to make a long story short...i had a reaction and called the restaurant and told them and they said all their hibachi meals comes with two pieces of shrimp...which i didnt know...they asked me did i acknowledge my shellfish allergy when the order was placed. If i ordered chicken, why would i have to acknowledge my shellfish allergy.. Did they acknowledge all their plates comes with shrimp!!
