Hartzell's Ice Cream

Watch out if you’re planning to take your kids for a “free” scoop of ice cream with the coupon from school. They basically asked the kids if they wanted two scoops (without us knowing), and basically charged full price. When asked about it, they shrugged their shoulders and said their boss told them to do it. I’d recommend Chocolate Moose or Bruster’s. This poor review isn’t about the price, more about how we were treated. I definitely do not recommend coming here.

Amazing place! I come here often for the incredible flavors and selection, plus the staff is always helpful and kind. They went above and beyond today when I needed a large amount of sorbet in a very short amount of time (20 minutes)! Not only did Hartzell’s save the day (and dinner for 150 people), they’ve made me a new fan of Açaí sorbet!

This business is a little shady, and I feel being taken advantage of. My kido got a coupon for a free scoop of ice creams at this place. He was excited and chose what flavor he wanted after presenting the coupon. While I wasn’t paying attention when he was ordering, he was asked by the staff if he wanted one or two scoops. Of course, he said two (without knowing the 2nd scoop is full-priced, NOT free!). I don’t like the way they do business with little kids. It's pretty sneaky they do that to my kid by asking if he wants one or two scoops (which I am not aware of) without telling him or me that the second scoop is NOT free… I thought it would be an excellent experience for my kid to order something by himself. Then it turned out to be a lesson to learn that when it said free, it is not always the way, and be careful that you may end up paying more than you plan for.

Great ice cream but I won't be back. When paying for my family's ice cream tip option's popped up on the screen. 15 percent being the smallest amount. I asked the employee where the no tip otion was he replied with attitude "you have to leave one" so, in order to complete my transaction I was forced to leave a 15 percent "tip" for what? For your employees to do their job? Insane. If they need more money to scoop ice cream then pay them more. I will not return.

$5 for a medium twist cone. Ridiculous. Plus the guy set my come down on the dirty counter. Won't be coming back. The prices are almost double what they used to be! They've been price gouging during this inflation crisis and deserve to go out of business. Plus the ice cream had chunks of ice and other particles in it which is a sign they haven't been cleaning the machines as regularly as they should. Would give zero stars if I could, this place used to have a five star rating from me which makes it even worse! They've definitely fallen off a cliff. Nearly doubling their prices in the midst of an economic crisis is predatory, and egregious price gouging that deserves to be put out of business. Anybody who gives this place a five star rating after what they've been doing is delusional, or a biased shill. And to hear about the "free" ice cream scam they've been trying on kids makes me dislike this place even more. Absolutely scummy business practices
