The Red Room At Cafe 939

Sounds are great. It is a very intimate venue. I attended a standing only concert and it was great. My only concern is that the stage is only a foot from the floor. So unless you are in the first few rows, you will have difficulty seeing the artist. I think this will be great if with seats so everyone can see the performance.

The Red Room at Cafe 939 is an absolute gem of a venue for hearing live music. It is tiny, but because it is run by the renowned Berklee College of Music, it has super professional lighting, sound and video equipment and services for both student and professional performers. Sometimes there are chairs for performances, but at other times it is standing only, although there are couches along a wall and a half for early birds. Most student performances are free and I don't recall a professional performance with a ticket price over $20. I regularly go to student performance events and can say with some authority that all of these singer/songwriter/musicians have the raw talent to become stars. Graduating senior performances are always poignant. The Cafe 939 website is well-designed and its calendar of upcoming performances is impeccably maintained. If you want to hang with some seriously talented people, or want to be moved or inspired, take in the Red Room.

Small and intimate venue. Saw an indie band here and it was a good atmosphere. Wish I knew ahead of time: No bar or even non-alcoholic drinks sold in the venue. There are bars close by if you’re like me and like a beer or two to mellow you out for a show. I was able to go get a bottle of water and bring it in.
