Grandpa's Homemade Icecream

Review Date: July 11th, 2016 Don’t grandparents make the best food. While visiting Catfish Bend Casino, I figured I would see if there were any Ice Cream Shacks in the area. Luckily, I found one! So after the casino, I hit up Grandpa’s to get some sweets. Parking here is pretty ample, so that’s a huge plus. Inside is pretty spacious and they have a lot of flavors to choose from. Unlike a lot of Ice Cream Shacks, they only served ice cream and ice cream related things. No hot dogs, tenderloins, french fries here. I don’t remember what I ordered from here, but I do remember it was pretty good. It scratched my itch but nothing beyond that. What really turned me off about this place was the worker behind the counter. His hygiene left a lot to be desired, which is reflected in my personal rating. I don’t remember what he did, but it set off a red flag or two in my head as I watched him. But besides the one worker, it was a nice little place. I figured Burlington would offer a lot but this seemed to be the only ice cream shack that I could find on Yelp/Google.

I have shared a review on Facebook with more information, but we had an incredibly rude interaction with the manager when we came here today. He was displaying behavior that is more akin to a child. We ordered a medium to share between my husband and daughter and when we asked if we could have an additional dish and spoon to split the ice cream, he rudely said "no. If you want two smalls, then order two smalls", and slammed the window and refused to come back to the window. Very childish and ridiculous behavior from an adult. We have been to this establishment many times and have always been treated nicely by the teenagers who work here, but if this is the manager I don't know that we will return.

Today was a beautiful 70 degree day so my Brother and I obviously had to go get some ice cream. but No be did not go to Coldstone Creamery, or DQ, we went to Grandpas, for one simple reason. HOMEMADE!! This is a locally owned icecream shop, so no they don't have a fancy sign, no they don't have fancy cups, but I didn't come here for, fancy. I came to Grandpas to try their homemade icecream whose recipes have been passed down from generation to generation. I had the medium cone with one scoop of Dark Chocolate and one scoop Salted Caramel, and it was Delicious!! The chocolate was rich and the caramel was so smooth and creamy. You can taste the love! They also have a big selection of flavors that very from day to day and may sellout if you don't get there quick enough. You can buy a pint to take home with you, or even a brownie or cookie that they use to make their sundaes. Duh they have sundaes!! And I have to come back and try them! So should you!
