Just an old fashioned bakery with excellent tarts, cookies, filled buns and moon cakes.

05/16/21: I ordered a handful of things at Chou Quon to try out. It’s been a few years since I’ve been and wanted to get a sampling. The staff speak Chinese and English. I forgot that some of the ladies speak Vietnamese, which would of helped me. Lol The line that afternoon was probably 10 people deep and with Covid-19 happening, it extended out the door with social distancing.
They have a really good selection of buns(savory, sweet), cakes, sweets, and dim sum items. This location doesn’t have all the dim sum, particularly the hot items, on display or have them listed on the menu board in English. I totally forgot what dim sum they made. I just lucky and saw/heard someone else order some dim sum (shu mai, har gow) ahead of me. I was totally wanted some of that. I ended ordering 2 bbq pork buns, 1 fried taro dumpling (wu gok), 1 fried glutinous rice pork dumpling (ham sui gok), 1 sponge cake, 1 sesame ball with red bean paste, 1 order of shu mai (pork and shrimp dumplings), 1 order of har gow (crystal shrimp dumplings). The woman getting my order seemed to be not in the best mood and kind of annoyed. Instead of har gow, she gave me 2 orders of shu mai. They only do cash and my total was under $20 for sure.
Everything we got was ranging from pretty ok to really good. We really like the sponge cake. It was light and not too sweet. My least favorite was the sesame ball. It was really doughy. Maybe it would of been better eating it right away instead of the next day.
Overall, Chiu Quon is a pretty good spot to get your Chinese baked goods and dim sum to go. It’s not SF Chinatown quality, but it’s good in Chicago.

The servers are rude AF, and long lines every time I’m there (I’d avoid weekends). But I absolutely love their stuff! All the traditional/ old fashion HK style treats. It’s a must try when you’re in the area. Cash only.

I really like this bakery. The people were nice and they work fast. Everything I ordered so far is good, but I wish the baked goods were kept somewhat warm. Otherwise, I really do like this place.

This is a mom and pop place on argyle Street which is the second Chinatown now sometimes called the Asian village. Delicious baked goods daily with boa costing only two bucks. Carry out no dine in.

Really bad customer service. My wife and I came to try this place for the first time because we always go eat at Tank Noodle and we pass by this bakery all the time. To start they only accept cash, and they only have a “Only Cash” sign at their front door but we missed it because people leaving hold the door open for us and we missed the sign I guess that was our fault, but they gave attitude to my wife when she wanted to pay with her debit card not knowing they only accept cash. So we told the lady at the register we’ll be back to get cash from our car. When we came back, which only took less than 5 minutes, they told my wife that they’ve put the stuff away and she needed to wait in line again to order what we had already order. The whole time since we got there they seem to bothered that we didn’t see the “Cash Only” sign and it was overall a very bad experience being first time customers. The food we ordered was ok but the customer service it’s just bad.

Big selection. Very fresh baked goods. We got Sesame cookies, sesame balls, coconut bun, and cream bun. It got a little crowded in the store which was kind of unusual during COVID times. Perhaps if they limited the number of people in the store at one time, it would be better. Regardless, this was a fun and authentic experience buying baked goods.

I walked in because I saw a lot of locals visiting there and thought it must be good. And so it was. They have so many options to choose from in dumplings , buns and moon cakes and much more.. the items are inexpensive and tasted pretty authentic. I enjoyed the sesame ball which was so soft and fluffy with crunchy sesame seeds on top and gooey sweet red beans paste inside. The best sesame ball I’ve eaten. Also enjoyed a moon cake. They have nice seating area too with fresh drinks.
