Storming Crab

From the Bay Area, was jonesing for Dungeness crab, so I popped in. Ordered Dungeness crab, sausage, potatoes and corn, chose the Cajun flavor (told it was combo of all flavors). Also ordered bowl of gumbo. It was pricey ($50). Lacked flavor punch and spice. The best thing was the gumbo, but more rice than gumbo. Jury is out for me, may have to give it another shot at a different location. The place pretty empty for mid-week afternoon.

I enjoyed the friendliness of the staff. The atmosphere was great. Great menu selection, with lunch and dinner. Dinner being one pound, and lunch being half a pound. The cocktail sauce, being in house made tasting, was awesome. The Seafood bread was so tasty, I could eat that all day, plus you get one piece each complementary. I liked the fried scallops, but they got soggy pretty quickly. The french fries were okay, they have that nasty paper tasting coating like several of the junk fast food places, but theirs were cooked better, as in golden as fries should be. The crab cakes were just this side of okay. The cakes were too fat making the inside a little under cooked while the outside was perfect. Way overpriced for the two cakes you get! Time for the sad and bad. The lobster tails were very tasty, but omg over cooked, clearly from frozen, overpriced for the very low quality. The snow crab legs were extremely small, over cooked and from frozen, too. The Old Bay boil was good, how could you mess that up, with a nice touch of added heat. Lastly the bad. I asked if the onion rings were batter or cornmeal, after checking they said batter. Well they were not batter, but the cheapest, nastiest, frozen cornmeal junk rings that I have seen in quite some time. The menu has market prices listed, but those are the fresh never frozen prices, where what is served here is frozen low quality. The type you get for $6.99 at Kroger, frozen lobster tail. They charge almost three times that. Was not happy with the deception. Overall I would rate them at a two star, but gave them three as my sister spilled her drink and they were great about it.

For the price I was expecting more flavor more butter! The portion sizes were good which made the money worth spending but not the taste. The the oysters were decent sized and the free cheese bread was a nice complimentary item. The food was okay but the service was better, I cannot say I will be back. My stars are for the service from Mary.
