Hwy 55 Burgers, Shakes & Fries

We went there again tonight (12/6) and got awesome food, bacon cheeseburger, fries and one of the best chocolate shakes in this part of NC. However our last visit couple months ago was disappointing, I think it mainly depends on who is working. Today was delicious and exactly what you would expect from a burger place. Please keep those employees from today!!!

I was heading home from OBX, and wanted a quick meal that wasn't the same old ordinary...found Hwy 55 on Google maps, and figured I'd give it a try. This place looks so innocuous and rather bland from outside, but the inside is an explosion of 50s era diner nostalgia! I missed the decade by about 25 years, but there was a great vintage feel...the staff was quick and efficient; the cashier lady was helpful and friendly. I ordered a Shrimp Burger, a Pimento Bacon Burger, and onion rings...the food came quickly (but not in a "been under the heatlamp for an hour" way), and it was perfectly cooked; delicious and filling! They have a pretty large menu, and the flatop grill and fryers are right behind the counter, in view of the customers. While it is well lit and looked pretty clean, it does appear to be an older building, in need of some renovations; but overall I enjoyed my experience, and will likely return next time I'm in the area.

Stopped here on a whim and glad we did. They were out of so many things it was almost comical but what they did have was very good especially the chicken cheese steak, the best my husband said he had ever had!! The pimento cheese and orange aid was very good and although the hot dog looked dehydrated, it was really tasty. We will definitely be back👍👍
