Penne Pomodoro (snider Plaza)

We dropped her daughter off at SMU last week, and we all went to Penne Pomodoro and had gluten-free pizza and gluten-free pasta followed up by an espresso & cappuccino. We just spent 2 weeks in Italy with AMAZING food & were ready to be disappointed, but Penne Pomodoro was wonderful. Omar was our waiter, he's super cool, & we'll be back. And then: My Benchcraft pocket knife fell out of my pocket but I didn't notice until the next day, and I called and Lauren found it wedged in the cushion of the seat I was in and she mailed it to me in San Antonio. Above and beyond. I highly, highly recommend this place with great food and even better people. :)

HIGHLY impressed with the gluten free options. GF pizza had the best dough I’ve had, tasted exactly like regular crust and was fluffy! GF pasta is equally good and not too squishy. My only complaint is the unfriendliness and rather rudeness from the to-go servers. Each time I’ve gone here I’ve never gotten a hello or even a smile. They should probably work in the kitchen and not the front.

Friendly staff. Regular visitors known by name are plentiful. The mozzarella bites are not the usual cheese sticks. These are crispy, crunchy, buttery bites oozing with the perfect amount of mozzarella. Great wine selection and fresh handmade pasta and sauces make this place a must visit for fresh Italian food.

Atmosphere is good and staff is very friendly. Overall quality of the food was good. Had the calamari as a starter but wasn’t that impressed with the taste. The batter could use a bit of seasoning next time. It also tasted like it was probably frozen by the texture, but most restaurants seem to use frozen calamari anyway. For an entree I ordered the ribeye special with peppercorn sauce, roasted potatoes and asparagus which was very good. Vegetables were not over salted and steak was cooked to order. The only complaint from a cleanliness standpoint would be that management look up from time to time. The air returns, supply registers and ceiling fans are very dirty with dust and dirt.
