Gateway Deli Cafe

This is a good lunch spot in downtown Detroit. It definitely can be hectic during the lunch hour, and there isn't a lot of seating, but the location is very good, and with the large windows, there's a lot of natural light in the place. Overall the staff was very friendly and efficient. I ended up ordering a reuben sandwich based on the advice of my server. This ended up being a good choice; the sandwich was decent size, and tasted very good. Overall, the selections (there is a good sized menu) were a bit on the pricier side, but at least my selection was very tasty, and made for a good, enjoyable lunch.

I just legit had the BEST Reuben I’ve ever had in my life. This place is awesome! Fred, the owner, is one of the nicest fellas and will treat you right. I am not familiar with the area, so I just threw a dart at the wall and figured I’d give this place a try. I will be back as often as I can get to downtown Detroit. Keep it up, Fred. Thank you for the hospitality, wonderful food, and amazing service! You’re the real deal. The kind of fellas that would give you the shirt off of his back. I hope other people have the experience I’ve had! I will see you very soon.

Love this place. They make me feel like family and I've been going back for a good 6 years now. Q (the chef) cares about his food and cares about the quality. The prices are just a few dollars more than youd expect but the quality of food is the reason, not selfish owners. These owners care, trust me! See you very soon Gateway!

Wait staff is decent...potatoes panacake sandwich are unique and quite good but the prices are a little steep. I ordered potato salad at the last minute on the morning of a Christmas potluck for a great price and was ready by the event. I really appreciated Gateway completing my dish request on such last minute notice

Visiting family in Michigan and on my way to the airport, decided to stop for a bite and found this jewel. Mom and I had the chicken noodle soup, she had pastrami Reuben and I had turkey Rueben. Such high quality food and excellent service!! The sandwiches tasted better than the famous Katz deli in New York City! The surrounding area is very fortunate to have this restaurant in the neighborhood.
