Jetta Thai

I was already in El Segundo and stopped here for lunch on a Friday afternoon. Staff was responsive and friendly. They have lunch specials that include an entree, cucumber salad & veggie rolls. The Pad See Ew with shrimp was delicious. Veggie rolls were good. Chicken and broccoli with rice was underwhelming and could use more seasoning but overall everything was good.

My family visited the restaurant this weekend during lunch time and the food was just awful! There was nothing authentic about Jetta Thai. We were better off gong to Panda Express (Chinese) or another local Thai restaurant in the area. Here began our concerns: Our food arrived after 5 minutes of ordering. The items were not hot dishes you'd receive after fresh meals were made. We were convinced our food was previously refrigerated and reheated with a microwave. The tell tell sign was the rubbery and tough Garlic Pepper tofu, which was hard to chew through, much like two day old microwaved tofu. The rice, perhaps purposeful, as we couldn't tell at that point, had really hard chunks of something that could not be described. It made the rice difficult to eat. The sweet and sour crispy chicken was anything but crispy and it sorely lacked sauce. Again, it tasted and looked like one day old chicken that was refrigerated and then microwaved. How disappointed we were with portion sizes and the audacity of the restaurant to serve this lackluster food. The plates were equivalent to a 10 year old's dollhouse playset. Very difficult to eat with the large forks. Will my family return? Absolutely not. Not even if this was the last meal on earth.

Had a PostMates delivery order from here tonight. Long long wait for the food. Portions amount are very small. The Papaya Salad was bland. Zero spice and zero flavor. If they used lime juice it was very little. The item arrived in a small container that seemed to hold less than two cup sized amounts of Papaya Salad. For $12.00, I should get more of the dish or an extra special and unique flavor. The chicken curry was very thin, watery, bland. There was hardly any seasoning or substance to the curry sauce. It was more of a curry sauce with two cups of water. Again, small portions. Then The chicken and broccoli was simply steamed broccoli with bland and unseasoned chicken over a bed of rice. I could had purchased a frozen Uncle Ben’s Rice Bowl for a quarter of the price and had 10 times the flavor as this dish had. This was factually about the same size as an uncle Ben’s rice bowl. The Tom Ka Soup was the only item that was flavorful. Still, to spend over $50 on Thai food and to have it arrive as it did was a massive let down. My wife and I couldn’t finish it and threw it in the trash.

Service was great. Food is delish. I got it to go with Thai iced tea. At first I was disappointed on how the food portion looked for the price. But after digging in a bit... It definitely started packing a punch. I was very full after. The spicy level here I rank as about a solid 8. (I have a high tolerance for spicy food) didn't make my nose run or lips burn. But definitely caught me off guard to notice it has some kick. Will Try Thai level spicy next time. If I compare this spicy level to say... Orochon Ramen in downtown... It would be like their level 4 or 5 regular spicy. I hope this place stays in town for awhile & they keep their spicy structure as is. Been to too many restaurants in the South Bay who have a spicy option and over time it gets diluted due to adapting to the environment. Whether it's Thai or Indian. I recomenned to give this place a shot.
