Jacmel Inn

I've been eating at Jacmel since I first heard about the place while at LSU in the 1970s sometime. A beautiful almost hidden property in Hammond with excellent service and good food reasonably priced. Most recent trip, about 50 miles from my house, was for Friday lunch with a friend who had never been to Jacmel. Good cocktails to start. We didn't do any apps as my guest has seafood allergies and there was only a beet salad that had no seafood on the menu app list. Lunch has a $17 soup or salad, entree and dessert option that is hard to beat. My guest got pork medallions with mushrooms and I got the steak tips. Both dishes were more than we could eat and very tasty. Hollandaise on the steak was different and ok, but I would have preferred the ushroom sauce my guest had with his pork medallions. Guest got the soup of the day and I got the house salad, both were very good. Flourless chocolate cake dessert was light and tasty.

Jacmel Inn on a Thursday night in January was a pleasant surprise. The food was excellent. I had Jumbo Shrimp with grits (essentially Shrimp & Grits). The presentation was superb, the smell exquisite, and the tastes matched. The sauce brought it'll together. I had to use some bread to mop it up at the end. The service was exemplary, with young but well trained servers. With at least two fireplaces, the restaurant is cozy, the various rooms sized just right to offer a personal and private experience. Put this place on your list of must visits.

Quaint, historic old home serves as a cozy restaurant with lots of windows and a warm fireplace. The cucumber mint gimlet was worth raving about! Food delicious- loved the potato gnocchi appetizer. I did the $15 pre-fixe lunch menu — The tomato curry soup was the best part of the meal- so good- the spice was prefect! Fried oysters with rice for the main meal. Oysters fried well- crisp on the outside- not greasy at all. Yummy raspberry bread pudding for dessert. 4.5 on food, 3 on service. Server was nice and knowledgeable, but was not as attentive as i would have liked- water glasses remained empty, took long time for second round of cocktails, and dirty dishes remained on table. In fairness, she did acknowledge that and it was obvious they were quite busy. Absolutely recommend - lovely place to dine with excellent food.

Want an amazing dining experience in Hammond!? This will be one of your go to spots. Food is exceptional and service was 5 stars. Sarah took care of us this evening and did an amazing job. Me and my fiancé sat outside on this beautiful evening for her birthday and the atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for.

The food was very good but a bit pricey for the portions. I was mostly surprised at how run down and neglected the building appeared to be. I was very cold during dinner and had to wear my coat the entire time, VERY unlike me. Upon leaving we discovered what looked like a bullet hole in the window. There was an iron railing across the front windows that looked like it had a dirty glove preventing it from sliding away. 🤔
