Anvil Bar & Refuge

Finally made it to this spot and it did not disappoint!! This was the second stop of the night for my friend's 50 bday celebration and from the moment we walked up we knew it was going to be a fun place, the gentleman at the door was funny and friendly... as we walked in a squeaky voice bartender greeted us with a menu and from there on it was a blast! Liliana is a great bartender!! We told her to surprise us with refreshing drinks, girly drinks, manly drinks and just whatever she thought we would like and everything we had was delicious. Her ability to greet ppl, heand out menus, take orders, carry multiple fun conversations all while making intricate cocktails at lightning fast speeds was just mind blowing. Great selection of bottles, crafted cocktails, bar food, good atmosphere and friendly staff makes this a must try spot in the Houston montrose area.

I recently visited the perfect evening hangout spot in the heart of Houston called Anvil, close to Rice University. This charming bar has quickly become my favorite place to unwind and enjoy some of the best cocktails and spirits in town. The atmosphere at Anvil is incredibly cozy and inviting. As you step inside, you're greeted with warm and low lighting that sets the mood for a relaxing evening. The unique low-lighting decor and comfortable seating make it feel like you're in a cozy place. But what truly sets this place apart is its extensive selection of cocktails and spirits. Whether you're a whiskey lover, a fan of craft cocktails, or simply looking for a well-mixed classic, they've got it all. The bartenders here are true masters of their craft, and they take pride in mixing up some of the most delicious and unique drinks I've ever had. The cocktail menu is a work of art, featuring various options to suit every palate. From old-fashioned classics to inventive and signature concoctions, you're bound to find something that suits your taste. I highly recommend your choice of anyone from the list, and I am sure they won't disappoint you. The selection of spirits at Anvil is equally impressive. Checked out this small, cozy bar for a drink before dinner. Came in the early afternoon on a Saturday and it was absolutely packed. Kudos to the staff and bartenders who were working incredibly hard to serve a crowd. Only had time for one drink, and it was great. Would definitely recommend coming outside of peak dinner hours to stay for longer. Hope to try some food as well next time.

So let me start this review off by mentioning that I'm a VERY casual drinker. But I know enough to tell if I'm getting a good drink. AND THIS PLACE HAS GOOD DRINKS! It's a very dark and intimate setting when you go in. There are an immediate flight of stairs to walk up before approaching the bar. We were seated right away. Our bartender's name was Josh. This guy rocks! The staff were all very friendly, kind with great attitudes. Josh provided us some recommendations on drinks and he was a wizard at making them! He kept us stocked on their little pretzel bites too. Super inviting personality and he just made you realize it was a good decision coming to the bar. That's how bartending is done. They also have small bites for purchase like a charcuterie, etc. The drinks were outstanding but unfortunately I don't remember the names of the unique ones I have pictured. But believe me, they were delicious. And the music playlist was LIT! ☺️ I HIGHLY recommend this bar to legal drinking folks of all ages. You will love the service, staff and drinks! We will be back!

Vibe- This is THE SPOT! It’s real chill and laid back. There’s a bar and about 10 booths with comfy seating. This is a nice spot to come to for a girl’s night out or date night. Customer service- Great! The bartender that helped me all night was great, he made the best drinks. Food/drinks- I had an Irish coffee and a grasshopper that was delicious. I also ordered the mushroom sandwich to eat and it was good! Parking- They have valet parking and a lot across the street with about 20 or so spots.
