Bar Marley

We had no idea what we were walking into. At first we thought it was closed, maybe abandoned.. But we called and they said they were open. We had a Groupon for them and thank god we did. I would have been pissed to pay $20 for the meal and service we had. The food is authentic Jamaican but I was served beef curry and the girl kept insisting it was in fact chicken. There were only a couple tiny pieces of chicken. Maybe they ran out. Also, expecting dinner options we were told they only had jerk or curry chicken. I wouldn't go back for the food, but maybe hanging out in what seems to be an old rundown garage with beach volleyball and a boat as a dj booth may be cool. I guess we didn't get the full experience that others rave about

Loved the atmosphere. It reminded of a beach dive bar with the decor, the sandy patio area, and the drum circle outside. The food was good, the drinks were fairly priced, and the service was decent. I loved that they had an old Nintendo with Mortal Combat behind the boat that centers the room. The only negative thing I have to say about it is it could be cleaned up a bit. There's still demo debris outside & random clutter all over the inside. I would definitely recommend this place to others though, and will be back.

The atmosphere is super eclectic and we loved it! Very open and accepting kind of crowd. Very friendly staff. My only issue was how spicey all of the food was. We ordered a few different items and I couldn't finish any of it. We will be going again for poetry slam and other events, but we'll probably just stick to the cocktails.

Bar Marley is my favorite bar in Knoxville; and it is a truly unique idea amongst all bars I have ever encountered anywhere in the US. The owner is great, and the food is wonderful when available. This place is not for the faint of heart. If you're the type of person to complain about a themed drink being served in a recycled "soup can" or a lack of air conditioning, then this bar is not for you. The health score here is solid -- the only things to fear are your own perceptions and expectations of what a "proper" establishment should be. Open up and accept something different. Welcome to the rest of the world.
