Best Of Europe

I've been going here for years and they have the most bomb sandwiches you'll find here in the High Desert. The young folks working their are polite and professional. I believe most would say "It's a bit of a wait to get my sandwiches" but I couldn't disagree more. It's a quality sandwich made with attention to detail and that takes a little longer than your everyday Subway sandwich. They have imported breads, pastries, desserts, drinks and meats from deli's found only down the hill or in your hometown. It's a definite, must stop, local joint if your passing through on Hwy 14 or Rte 138 for a great bite!

Had to travel to Lancaster from Bakersfield for work and thought finding a new place for lunch would take the edge off. I'm so very happy to have discovered Best of Europe. The adorable wife and husband couple working there were very attentive and generous with advice and taste samples for someone wanting to try something new. They recommended a sandwich that I ordered with pretty much everything. Then I asked for it "wet" and the guy who made it new exactly what I meant. So delicious! When I went back in for some items to take home, rather than just racking up sales, with certain selections they gave cautions such as, "just so you know, this is spicy" or "this is really smelly". And with two kids who love Irish Breakfast tea, I couldn't resist a box of Jaffa Cakes. And the can of Scottish Haggis was also an irresistible novelty, along with Lyle's Golden Syrup, bangers, etc. What a delightful find tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Hope they seriously consider my suggestion to expand to west Bakersfield soon.

Go here every couple months to pick up a pound of some good meats like corned beef, pastrami, and pancetta (only place I know in the AV with pancetta). Their deli is all Boar's Head brand selections. A few classic European canned and jarred goods too, nice small place. Don't plan on sitting around here, more of a grab and go place

We had stopped at another store in this center so we decided to try this place by chance. We are very happy we did. There is a little seating area inside and a few tables outside. It was fairly busy. There is a small area for European food items and the deli. My husband ordered a capicola sandwich. I ordered pierogies (which I was ecstatic to see). I loved my pierogies! My husband enjoyed his sandwich very much. The bread was soft with a nice firm crust. We will say it had a sweet bread and butter like pickle we were not fans of. We are dill pickle people. Great meal.

What a sight for sore eyes! I'm from Montreal (east coast french canada) where delis, bakeries, cheese stores and sandwich shops are around every corner. Something I've sorely missed from my hometown is a place like Best of Europe. Now from what I know, in comparison it should not rate 5 stars (not even close) but for this sad region of the desert, it's the only place short of driving to LA or Vegas where i can get raclette cheese, liverwurst (pâté de foie gras), roquefort cheese, camembert, real mustard and a good sandwich. So 5 stars in conjunction to where this store is located: Lancaster. I really wished though that they had better bread (like a French baguette) and more options as they often run out of things. But that is to be expected since this sort of stores is not popular in the land of twinkies and cheap burgers... for an expatriate though, you'll be super happy to have discovered this place! Edit: This time ordered one of the best sandwiches I ever had in my life: On sourdough roll, the Italian cold cuts mix with prosciutto, swiss cheese, deli mustard, tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, pepperoncini peppers and vinaigrette. EXCELLENT!
