Clara & Ray’s Ristorante Italiano

First time there with the family, staff friendly and clean but the food was not so. Wife ordered the Stromboli and my son ordered the Calzone. Both looked the same on the side and out. Very little meat, cheese and sauce. I had the meatball dinner. Looked by good with good portion but no flavor in the meatballs. We took the chance on going somewhere new and was disappointed.

I have to say that I was not impressed with the food. The service was friendly and prompt but the food was definitely lacking. Pizza was so greasy when we picked it up to take a bite grease kept running off it and onto the plate. Very pricey for the quality of food you get. ($3) Brownie was dry and hard but the ($6) ice cream scoop on top was not too bad. $30 got us 4 slices of pizza, 6 garlic knots and a brownie a la mode. We left with 2 slices of pizza still untouched bc it just wasn’t great. Have to say that we are disappointed bc it was our first visit and assumed from the prices we were in store for a treat...sadly mistaken

This takeout pizza still tastes delicious when you get home and enjoy it later. We haven’t been to Clara and Ray’s in a while because it’s more of a drive for us— but the top notch pizza we picked up today will keep me from trying to “settle” for average from now on. My favorite is the tomato-fresh basil. Two of my sons (ages 10&12) agree this pizza is as good as the pizza we have had in NYC. Their curbside service is on track, too.

My daughter and I had the pleasure of dining at Clara & Ray's tonight while passing through SC. What a gem! I had a very generous portion of eggplant parmesan and my daughter had cheese ravioli and sausage. The garlic knots were perfect! I would send everyone to this ristorante for a delightful evening! If I every get back to Lexington, this will be the first place I visit!
