Atmosphere was off the scale. We could have been sat where Charles Dickens sat. Seating organised in atmospheric booths. Menu very traditional, great. Had the Barnsley chop, loved it. Highly recommended.

Like stepping back in time, very old fashioned pub, not changed in centuries. We had a private dinning room for a much overdue friends get together. Note it is old fashioned and the stairs to the dinning rooms are dark and steep. But this adds to the atmosphere. Famous for Charles Dickens and the Hell Fire Club. Service was impeccable despite the stairs and all our food was very good. Sam Smith's ales including AF Brown Ale. Food was great can't fault it if you want to step back in time.

Nice and quiet. All the other pubs in the area are heaving and a pain to get served. This place always seems fairly empty. Super quiet and gorgeous inside. Lots of history. The only negative is, it's a Sam Smiths pub which means Sam Smiths vodka, Sam Smiths lager, Sam Smiths bitter, Sam Smiths lime cordial, Sam Smiths whiskey, Sam Smiths wine, you get the picture. There's a correlation between the busyness of the surrounding pubs with their array of different brands versus this rather beautiful but empty pub with it's monotonous single brand. If you like a nice Oban or a nice Guinness or a Doombar, you won't be coming here. If you don't mind Sam Smiths own brand and nothing else, then you'll be happy. Well worth a visit, just to say you've been where Charles Dickens once went and even weaved into his storytelling This ancient City pub, now a chop room, has origins in the 13th century, and was a favourite of Dickens. Mr Pickwick and Sam Weller stayed in rooms above the pub throughout much of the second half of the novel.

Well this was one off the wishlist. A hidden gem of a Samuel smiths pub in the city. Very quiet inside on my visit but people outside in the lane. Friendly service and the place has a lot for history fans

We came upon this place whilst wandering round the city and as a history buff it is fantastic. Its a Samual Smith bar so you are limited in what you can drink but if you want somewhere where you can sit and imagine London in the olden times it is perfect. Staff really friendly and knowledgable about the history of the place. We only had a drink but the menu looked good.

This place is a hidden gem. I have been here before. Long time ago, in a galaxy far far away! Joking aside, we had a Friday St George day meal here and it was perfect and everything I knew it would deliver and it did liver! I had the scallops with black pudding and bacon, starters, of the the Cuff menu, superb 👌🏻 then inhad the tomahawk chop, with devil's livers! Again, superb and so well cooked and presented. The staff were lovely, especially with us all being there! It is a proper part of London, historic but the food is perfect and better than some posh Gordon Ramsey or any associated chefs. It's got history, lovely food and choice, and great staff. Thank you and I hope people get what I'm saying! London eat drink nice this is the place x

We hosted a fantastic evening with a few fine gents in the Dickens room. For any good gents out there looking to break bread and share common interests, I tip my hat and say good morrow to you sir, I'll see you there. Compliments to the waitress who did a good job of bringing our mead & meats up the many stairs, and dealing with some raucous but very fine men. 10/10
