Sam's Steakhouse

Visited Sam's for our wedding anniversary on a recommendation from our AirBNB hosts. The clam chowder was probably the best I have ever had. Ordered the fillet with mashed potatoes and my husband had the same with the addition of scallops. Everything was delicious. We visited during a slow time of year on a Sunday night so it was quiet and we were seated and waited upon promptly. A little disappointed that they were out of the crab cakes but otherwise, a very good experience.

Wanted to try something different for NYE so we took a little drive up to Sams. Arrived a bit early for our reservation and we were seated immediately. Our Server Erik was polite and attentive despite the restaurant being busy and him picking up a 10 top next to us. We split the menu choices and shared. Chowder and bisque were both excellent. Shrimp Cocktail was chilled and snappy. Steaks were cooked as ordered. There was a mistake on the bill and we were charged for the neighboring table's $120 bottle, which was rectified without issue. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and props for the consistent brand presence throughout.

Good: no reservations, so one can get a table on short notice. - Decent service. - Extensive wine list. Not so Good: - Kitchen is very slow, so be prepared to wait 1+ hours for food to arrive. - Food is way overpriced for what you get. $22 waygu burger was very pedestrian, and kids observed that 5 Guys burgers are better. - Menu is very limited. Unless everyone in your in part is in the mood for meat, your alternatives are a daily pasta dish, a soup, or tuna poke bowl. That's it.

Will be a great place with a bit more attention to detail. The wine list is decent but states the wrong vintages. Ordered a bottle of Stag's Leap Artemis - marked as 2013/14 vintage. Turned out to be a 2016. Suggestion to the owner: Either update the list or encourage customers to inquire. Any wine connoisseur will appreciate this much more than the disappointment of finding out that his favorite selection is being substituted without comment... The medium pork chop arrived overcooked, beyond well done. The strip steak on the othe hand was done perfectly, as were the crab legs. Likewise the creamed spinach and sauteed mushrooms were on par with the best NYC steakhouse. What made this a delightful evening after all was the service: Mary quickly rectified everything in a quiet, most friendly and competent manner. My take : Sam's is a restaurant on the upswing and well worth a visit. From the moment we arrived my wife and I felt welcome and appreciated as customers - after all that's the most important foundation for a successful establishment. Everything else can (and I am sure it will) be worked out in good time. We will return.
