Palette Bar And Grill

This was my first time at Palette and I thought they did a wonderful job of creating a fun and happening restaurant in Madison. Loved the decor and interiors of the places. Nicely done. Food, service, and ambience was perfect. We were a big group and our server did a fantastic job of catering to us all. The appetizers were amazing and I loved the different sauces that accompanied it. Do try the Fries, Bavarian soft pretzels, and Cheese curds. For the main I ordered the grilled salmon and it was perfectly cooked and presented. Loved the presentation of each of the dishes. Special mention for the paint buckets shaped dish used to serve the fries. Finally the ice cream cake was the cherry on the top. It was the star of the night and the perfect way to end our Palette girls night. Check out this place for an artistic food experience! Highly recommend!

Went for drinks and appetizers before a concert and loved it. Very tasty cocktails (clean slate), and the nachos, fries, and fish tacos were all excellent. The decor is very cool and plays off the paint theme from the prior dorne paint store/supply that was on the property before redevelopment. We'll be back.

Out of food during a special, took over an hour and a half to get our food. It was pretty busy so I tried to be understanding. Then the manager talked down to us about a few things when we were just confused. We only had 2 drinks each during this extremely long wait time for food because our waiter wasn't around. Then at the end they put a random 15% "COVID charge" which isn't posted anywhere on the menu at all. Your pasta is $18 with no protein. I don't think you need a 15% COVID charge for something that cost $2 to make while also charging $12 a drink. Just pay your employees better, no one seemed to want to be there. I would have given more than 2 stars cause the food we did get was pretty good, but because of the manager and the overall experience I just don't think it's justified.

My significant other and I ate at The Palette Bar and Grill on New Years eve and had a very whelmed experience, nothing terrible but not great. Service was slow to start off, we sat for around 15mins before being addressed by a waiter or waitress. During covid times, normally I would not fault a company as staffing is tough everywhere, but the restaurant looked to be at 30% capacity with plentiful staffing working. Once our waitress attended to us, she did a fine job. We both ordered the 21 day aged steaks, I had the sirloin and my girlfriend had the New York strip with sides. The new York strip was 100x tougher than the sirloin, to the point that we could barely use the knife that was provided to cut it. The sirloin was cooked well, but the glaze that was extra, had low to little flavor. Sides we decent and the appetizer of the cream cheese mushrooms was lacking flavor. I did not leave the restaurant with the feeling of "oooh I'll come here again", but instead I left with a full belly and a feeling that it was a very so so meal. There are plenty of other restaurants in the area that I think provide a better meal for the relative dollar spent.

I went there with my parents and girlfriend for a combination of a late Father’s Day and late birthday celebrations for my mom and girlfriend. We got there at 4 and it wasn’t too busy. The ambiance is artistic/industrial themed it feels very warm and unique. We felt a little under dressed but realized there was a wedding staying there. The bartender sat us and he was very warm and passionate about the drink specials. He called on his signature drinks the best in the city which was something like “Espresso Expression”. It had ginger, orange, and cloves (I believe) along with an espresso alcohol of some kind. It was phenomenal. He was also very excited to share some of the unique aspects of his drinks. You can tell he is very passionate about his craft. I finally understand why the term “mixologist” exists. My girlfriend and mom got the salmon and they both raved about it. Like “Ooooh my Goooood” pleasure when eating something unexpectedly delicious. My dad had the fully loaded burger and I had the palette burger. It was juicy and a little greasy, but absolutely amazing. The fries were battered and delicious and I’m hard to please with my fries. My dad took his time eating his burger and that was a significant sign of how much he enjoyed. There was also like a beer/pretzel cheese that was served with the fries. I usually don’t go in for that kind of thing, but it was melty and decadent. I had no idea The Palette was a restaurant in the area. My girlfriend found it and I’m incredibly happy she did. If you like places like Alchemy in Atwood, you’ll love The Palette. Both are now my favorite restaurants in Madison.
