Udon Izakaya Maedaya

waited about 10mins for the first dish to be served which wasn’t too bad. for sides we ordered salmon sashimi and takoyaki. portions were good and salmon was rather fresh. for mains we got the niku (beef) udon and assorted tempura udon. the soup for the niku udon was elite and the udon was cooked well in good portions. tempura came out hot and good. one bad point would be that there was a lot of people walking around and tables are quite close together. felt like someone was about to knock into me a couple times. food was also decently priced. would come again!

If you want amazing udon, this is the place to be. We tried the nabeyaki hotpot udon and it was absolutely amazing. The takoyaki was also fantastic. Food was served really quickly as well. Added 2 to 3 side dishes and we had a meal for 3. Prices are super affordable, the only downside is that they are usually very busy and therefore a long queue outside to get in. Will definitely come back for more!

Not much authentic Japanese izakaya with cute Japanese decorations and interior like these. Got the 🍲🍜 Suki Nabe Udon Hot Pot. The udon noodles were the perfect texture, broth tasty, and came with tempura prawns, some veggies, and mushroom. We also ordered the 🍙 Grill Onigiri Balls—the perfect appearance with the most beautiful golden brown color but sadly there was so filling though. Overall, great for its price. They have an all you can drink 🍶 sake option as well if you love to drink!

Ordered the following: - Wagyu mince miso udon - egg was cooked with a runny yolk perfect for mixing the mince meat with the udon. Very flavourful and also a nice chewy texture from the udon - Vegetable tempura don - decent variety of vegetables but the kakiage was soggy. Also not enough tendon sauce on the rice - Chicken karaage - 2 out of the 4 pieces were overcooked with a hard layer of meat which was difficult to bite into - Ice iyokan - a Japanese citrus fruit which has a sweet and bitter taste similar to grapefruit, interesting to try Overall reasonably priced and the wagyu mince miso udon was tasty.

This is a genuine Japanese restaurant staffed by a mainly Japanese crew. Ordered all three of the nabe udon in the menu. The standard one was the tastiest with the spicy miso coming a close second. The udon was firm and equivalent to the ones you find in Japan. Tried only one side dish, the kaarage chicken which was the most popular and came highly recommended. While it was well fried, the meat was below my expectations. I could be wrong but it tasted like it was frozen. Nevertheless, the restaurant overall was excellent and provided a taste of Japanese food outside Japan.
