Komegashi

We usually walk around flagstaff garden after dinner. This shop caught our eyes for its promotion of $2 beer. It is a classic Korean/Japanese restaurant run by Koreans. There are quite a few of them in the city. It is an interesting arrangement, considering they are very different cuisines. Korean foods tend to more hearty and spicy, while the common Japanese dishes are more mild and light. The waitress was quite friendly. The foods we tried are Korean. They are not as good as some of the Korean places on little Lonsdale street. The location is convenient though.

JAPANESE / KOREAN LUNCH OPTION Komegashi is a small restaurant almost on the corner of LaTrobe and King Streets. It offers a quick lunch option (eat in or takeaway) for city workers. Has some tables inside if you want to eat in. Cheerful service. Offers bento box lunches (including vegetarian) as well as other menu items. Also has a $1 Sapporo beer option with any meal. Self serve fridge with cans of soft drink - and even has sugar free options :) As a lunch option it is fine - fast, convenient and cheap. Its not fine dining so don't roll up expecting tablecloths and napkins! People with mobility issues will be OK as its all on one level and there is fairly generous space between tables. Good for a quick lunch alone of with one or two others. Gets a lot of takeaway customers. Cash and cards accepted.

what a find! we didn't expect much and were blown away by the quality of what we ordered. we had miso soup, okonomiyaki, lobster salad onigiri and pork gyoza. are only pet peeve was the miso soup which was served barely warm but the rest was superb! service unfortunately was not as good as the meal - couldn't get anyone's attention.

I had a very nice meal here. The tonkatsu bento was well presented and quite tasty. It included a lot of different things to taste, so I write enjoyed that. It is also nice to have a 2 dollar beer to go with your meal. I want to try some of the spicy sauces next time. I went here after exercising, and the portion size was good. The price was also very affordable and the service was quick.
