I would give it a 5 stars rating but a few mishaps along the way warrants the 4 stars. We went on Valentine's Day and I guess they had a V-Day special. Food is excellent let me get that of the way. The live band was good too. The service is very good it could be better. It took sometime to seat our party, but the food was excellent that it was worth the wait but my question is.. why didn't my party get all the food that we were supposed to get in our to go boxes?! For our $250 bill no one should have dropped the ball like that. I will be calling the GM to address this mishap. I will go back and eat here again but I will personally supervise my to go boxes next time

Went there on a Thursday night with friends from work. It is a great atmosphere and the service is good. They were patient with us as we were waiting for one of our friends before we ordered Thursday is fish night and I have red snapper with collard greens and ginger grits. The serving size was just right not too overwhelming and the fish was partially filleted to make it easy to eat

The food is good, the service can be hit and miss. I've been there a few times with small groups before the main lunch rush hour. Some servers are attentive and some seem detached. The food has been consistent which makes up for the service. I'd like to experience the dinner and live music on my next visit.

This is truly a hidden gem in Newark. The space is well lit with unique artwork. Food is prepared and seasoned well. But be sure to make sure your dish is actually available before ordering! Our waiter came back three times to tell us an ordered dish was unavailable (Oxtail and red snapper). Portions are generous and the sides are delicious. The cornbread is addictive! There are plenty of side dish options for vegetarians and they even serve a sautéed vegetable sandwich. It tastes great, but is very saucy resulting in a soggy roll. I wound up eating it with a fork (at least they have a vegetarian offering). Staff is very pleasant, although some dishes came out later than others. Despite the wait, we had a wonderful time and plan to return.
