Onyx Espresso Bar

This café in Mayfield is nice, finding a park is fine. The staff are friendly, service was lovely. There's multiple places to sit, you have the footpath out the front not great for eating tho good for a quick coffee sitting down. You have inside it is a good setting and lighting is nice. Then you have around the back great for a sunny days and dogs and children as they supply toys. There is this one area around back that should be covered up with a fence as this is where they store bins rubbish mops and milk creates. The drinks and pastries are amazing. They also have Papa bagels on supply. Food was alright but not amazing the French toast bread was Turkish not the best it was soggy the surface of the bread was covered but the rest was plain. The bread ratio for tofu scramble was a bit off as there was so much tofu left.

I highly recommend coming to Onyx especially for breakfast. The service is great and the food is incredible. Leya, Kath and crew couldn’t have been nicer and the coffee is the best around. One thing I definitely recommend ordering is the Onyx Brekky Burger which is just divine. They also do a variety of fresh cold pressed juice which is absolutely delicious and top top it all off I also recommend getting the Chewy Caramel Tim Tam Frappe.

ONYX is hands down the best cafe in Newcastle. The food is delicious, well priced, fresh and presented beautifully! The coffee is amazing, they have a wide range of drinks including beautiful freshly squeezed juices. ONYX is also so very inclusive of all of their customers which is amazing as Mayfield has a very diverse community base. I love supporting small businesses and especially ONYX! Keep shining, your team are amazing and we appreciate you all!

Used to be a fave but service and food have gone downhill lately. At a visit this week, coffee took 45 mins and there was a lot of attitude from front staff when I politely checked what was happening. The last few times they have consistently got the orders wrong and the young waitstaff seem very stressed and harassed by the older staff. The scrambled tofu I was served tasted fermented like it had gone off and was inedible. Even getting takeaway coffee seems to take 15-20 minutes recently. I truly hope they can turn it around as there’s a lot to like about Onyx - the landscape outside is terrific, the chickens and toys are fun, the older lady who works as a chef with short hair is always super friendly.
