Frying Fish Cafe

I am a local and we had 9 in our group. This is an open air cafe and take away only so no masks should be required. But even if you have an exemption they will not serve you. Even if the mask mandate is lifted we will never go there again and will not recommend this cafe to any of our visitors or friends. We were able to get takeaway at two other places in Rainbow beach without having to wear a mask. I will not support a business that discriminates.

I witnessed staff refuse service and threaten to call the police, as my medically exempt husband was lawfully not wearing a mask. He politely informed them of his exemption and they proceeded to close the store on their 30 Customers in preparation to phone police. Ignorance is not an excuse in times like this - your business must educate itself and your staff. Signs saying ‘No Mask, No Entry” Are in breach of section 6 & 24 of the Commonwealth Discrimination Act 1992 (and other laws) and should either be removed from premises or state ‘EXCEPT THOSE WITH LAWFUL MEDICAL CONDITIONS’ or a similar. It is unlawful to discriminate against someone who is not wearing a mask or refuses to supply their personal information if you are allowing other members of the public to enter your premises (The Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act – Part 2 Section 8). You can be fined $5000, for refusing goods or services to people NOT wearing a mask. This is because customers may have a lawful exemption such as a medical condition. As a business owner, you are not lawfully able to ask customers for PROOF of their medical exemption, as that information is protected under the Privacy Act. However, you can ask if they have a medical exemption, be aware under the Privacy Act that they are not required to respond (Disability Discrimination Act 1992 sec 6 & 4).

Worst fish and chips ever. The NZ battered cod was dry and chewy...batter was greasy and fried in dirty oil. How can anyone ruin chips? Chips were dry and poor quality. Best thing was the garden salad. Service was so slow... took about 1 hr to get our order and no notice given of the wait time when ordered or an apology from staff. Customers were very disgruntled waiting outside. Never go back

Dam, fell right down the rabbit hole on this one. Read every review and i know i shouldn't do it but I'm gonna. 20-40 minute wait for food, yep that sounds like every fish n chip shop ive ever been to. Chips were soggy, their cooked in vegetable oil after a certain period of time that's gonna happen. I miss the old days when they deep fried in animal fat chips were crispy and delicious when you got em,when you got em home,the next morning after 5 minutes in the microwave, still crispy and delicious! Would be nice if they had a phone line so you could pre order for pickup, 8 months i think she said that they've been at war with telstra trying to get a line put in, i shouldn't start on telstra this is long enough already. I go there every couple of weeks, always get the same thing hamburger and chips and its always good, taste, price, serving size, build quality of their burgers is ideal you can actually take a bite out of the thing without all the fillings slipping outta the bun. Five stars, awesome!
