J. Gilbert's Wood-fired Steaks & Seafood

The service here is some of the best I've experienced, and the food was delicious! The salmon and the grouper (seasonal special) were both excellent. All the sides we tried were good. The potato and bell pepper hash was phenomenal, and I say this as someone who doesn't even like bell peppers. The only thing that didn't live up to my high expectations was the chocolate cake, which was fine, but a bit dry compared to desserts I've tried at similar restaurants. We'll definitely be back if we're ever in Omaha again.

The Prix Fixe is a good three course option. Did the $54 Tier 6oz filet with indicated sides. The steak was absolutely the best. Ordered medium-rare it was so tender. Started with three half-shell oysters, each delightfully ocean fresh and tasty. Chose the Caesar salad (kind of spicy) for the first course, berries& cream for the third course. The cocktail of choice was the smoked old fashioned.

The chicken tortilla soup was very good. The restaurant uses it woodfired grill which gives the steaks a unique flavor, but they also put a rub with some kind of coffee and chili on the steaks. I wasn't a huge fan of the rub. The creamed corn and green beans sides were very tasty. The creme brulee we had for dessert was silky smooth and tasted amazing. The first floor of the restaurant is rather noisy and had some kind of an incense smell. We were seated on the second floor which is much quieter and didn't have an odor.

I went with my Godparents for a lovely dinner. It was Labor day Monday. Our table was ready when we showed up. Service was excellent all the way from the host, bartender making drinks, and our server was straight A professional. We all got something different so we could try a bunch of stuff. The clear winner was the Aussie lamb rib rack. Also the pork chop was the best we had ever had. The steak was pretty good but not the best ever in my opinion. Next time we'll shoot for the dry aged and check the difference. I had my first oyster Rockefeller and I'm in love. Most surprising was the pastrami butter that comes with the bread. So subtle and divine. The mushroom risotto was slightly disappointing. All in all totally worth any money you spend here. Thank you for the beautiful time!
