Very authenticated Japanese restaurant, best dish would be Tempura, chef nailed it, lots of Hana Goromo. Sashimi were served on prefect temperature and freshness. Deep fried Mochi reminds me a very traditional chinese street food "Zha Gao". Whitebait was good too but lack a little bit of crispyness. Slightly pricey, we spent $127 for 2 ppl. but totally worth it. Will def come back.

Came on a quiet Friday afternoon, ordered a lunch set. The restaurant has a nice homey feel, with outstanding service and great value (there was quite a lot of food for one $21 lunch set: including beef+rice, miso soup, edamame, tofu, and salad). The waitresses swiftly took finished plates away, refilled water without us having to ask, and chose specific takeaway boxes for us to use based on how much food we had left. They even glad-wrapped a container of sauce for us to eat with our leftover tempura.

Five stars for the quality and value of the sashimi-don lunch special - which is sold in very limited numbers each day. Make a booking for 11:30am to ensure you don't miss out. 14/8/21 edit: they are doing the lunch specials during lockdown as takeaway bentos, and they are just as good! Order ahead by phone.

I came here for lunch today since I was really craving salmon and rice. I ordered the grilled salmon (set) with teriyaki and it came with salad, miso soup, rice, edamame and agedashi tofu. Everything was really delicious! The agedashi tofu had a slight chilli spice to it that was unexpected but really tasty with the broth. The salmon was cooked really well and and the skin was deliciously caramelised. The set cost $19.50 and I walked out super satisfied and full. The service was also quite attentive and lovely and there are nice signs on the wall inviting questions and noting the staff all speak Japanese. They also apparently make their own ice cream but I was too full to order any, I would have loved to try the sesame one. I also found they have a gluten free menu page and think that's lovely. I'll definitely be back again soon.

We arrived at 7pm and the place was busy with all tables filled. Ordered 5 dishes for 2 people. The food was authentic, the closest we've had to Japan (4 or 5 stars on this). Our top picks were: Light and airy tempura soft shell crab, tender wagyu beef with a sweet marinade and yummy grilled fish, so much flavour for such a simple dish. Salad and sushi rolls were fresh. It was unfortunate that the food took so long to come out. Dishes came out one by one and there was a wait between each dish. Our salad came out first and we finished this before the other dishes had a chance to arrive because we could not wait any longer. We were so hungry! By the time we left it was 9:30pm and there were still other tables waiting for food. We would come back for the food but only when it's not as busy.

Kubota has become a regular for me and the fam. Simple Japanese dishes executed perfectly. Pretty generous and at a great price. I like the teriyaki kingfish and chicken - always perfectly cooked. One nice touch - they bring out a an eclectic range of handmade sake cups when you order it and you get to pick yours. This restaurant undeservedly flies a bit under the radar, perhaps overshadowed by 'Little Portugal' restaurants. I can thoroughly recommend.
