Hook Fish & Chicken

Revisited December 2022. Still good, but the fries could have been better. They have deserts from a local bakery which is good and bad, the community is great but the products are hit or miss and they don't directly control it. The wait was about twice as long as initially estimated, which sucked but the food made up for it. Really good. Freshly cooked. They do put this like, house blend? Seasoning on everything! Everything. It's good, but kind of masks the underlying flavors of stuff. The one thing I didn't like was the coleslaw, I ordered a large and got 4 smallish cups. It tasted canned and not great. The catfish and hush puppies were straight fire though.

However they do it, pricey, but sooooo worth it. Little tiny stand-alone shop, but the chicken is always so juicy, and the outside so crisp, and soooooo tasty. It's a great treat when I know it's a meal-time, and I am driving by. Don't be fooled by the coleslaw, it's just a sampler bite... you are really going there for the fish, or chicken, or shrimp and the fries!!!

When you walk in the doors of HFC for the first time, you're not sure what to expect based on the unassuming nature of the establishment, but I promise, it’s by far more prodigious than you may expect. I got my favorite, the cat fish. I feel it necessary to report that the catfish isn't quite as thick or moist as I remember it being from my last visit. I was expecting the golden brown crispy crust coating the overflowing white mounds of succulent fish flesh, but the filets being so thin, that wasn't quite the same experience. Still, the fries are exactly what they need to be, crispy, deep golden, and delicious. 11/10, would dine here again and happily destroy my diet and reputation if necessary to get my grubby paws on some of the best fried food the city has to offer.
