Peddlers Steak House The

A great prime rib, but with several larger groups hard for eaitress to check on us. Still enjoy Peddlers. Aalso dessert selection was much smaller than last time. For people that have allergies like myself, a few more selections help in selecting a dessert. Since there were so few we didn't order one.

My wife and I showed up at around 6 without a reservation-not sure they take them there. We were told the wait was about an hour and so we waited at the bar. The place is old and according to a couple we met at the bar, basically unchanged since the 1970s. This was fine by us as it did have a nice vibe and was dimly lit. After a few drinks we were called to our table after about 40 minutes. We each ordered the filet mignon which you can get from 6oz on up. Just tell them what size. Every meal comes with an unlimited salad bar which was a nice touch and fantastic. I also ordered the French onion soup which was one of the best I've ever had. Not too salty and actually had a sweetness to it. When the steaks finally came-we waited a bit but it wasn't bad-they were cooked to perfection. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed them with a sweet potato on the side. One of the best steaks we've ever had. So 4 drinks, filet mignon and the salad bar was roughly $135 before tip. Honestly less than what we expected. Overall it was top notch and well worth the trip.

Don’t let the exterior fool you. They have the best steaks, the grilled bread is to die for, the pimento cheese amazing and my favorite part is the salad bar!! My only complaint is there are no steak accompaniments like bernaise, red wine sauce, Oscar style, etc. And btw, when I say the best steaks, we’ve had them all in the Raleigh area: Rey’s, Angus Barn, The Oak, Capital Grill, J Alexander’s, Sullivan’s…. The Peddler’s steaks have the best flavor.

I love steak and we often have it at home on my grill. My preferred cuts are Porter House and Ribeye. On my visit I got the Porterhouse. So did my friend sitting next to me. Both steaks were very tasty but also slightly, gristly and I thought cut fairly thin. Not what I expected for a $39 steak. Other dishes at our table seemed really good to our group. All the sides were done well. Our waitress was amazingly attentive. The atmosphere was nice and classic legacy nice steak house style.

I had onion soup, which was not even close to being hot. The lettuce on the salad bar was dripping wet. My salmon was very tasty, but my husband had the porterhouse steak and it had a great deal of sinewy around the edges and the steak knife was totally inadequate to cut through it. For the cost of the meal, it was disappointing.

Peddler is an old Raleigh Staple. A steakhouse staple if you will. lol. The meats are great and the service is great - the atmosphere is not great but it’s been this way for at least 40 years that I can attest to! If you have t. Even there, you should try it! If you have proper expectations the place is fine. It is not a top end steak that gets delivered to your table. It's also not a top end price tag. So all is good. Look elsewhere for "fine dining" steak experience. Look here for a fun vibe and ok food. As others have said, the salad bar is excellent.
