Visited the main staple of San Antonio after several years. They are locally owned, make everything in the restaurant, and have been around since the late 1970s. I had the chicken fried steak, with mash potatoes and green beans smothered in white cream gravy. We had ice-cold beer to go with the meal. Our server was Kristen, and she was on top of things and gave us excellent service. I DEFINITELY would recommend this place to others. Note, they are famous for their chicken fingers, mashed potatoes, and green beans covered in white cream gravy. This and an ice cold beer are heaven. I hope your experience is as good as mine.

I recently had the pleasure of trying the chicken fried steak here, and it was an absolute delight. The steak was perfectly breaded and fried to a golden crisp, yet remained incredibly tender on the inside.What truly set this chicken fried steak apart was the creamy, peppery gravy that generously covered it. The flavors were well-balanced, providing just the right amount of kick without overpowering the taste of the steak itself. The portion size was generous,the overall experience here was fantastic. The ambiance was cozy, the service was top-notch, and the chicken fried steak was the star of the show. If you're a fan of comfort food done right, I highly recommend giving it a try. It's a true taste of Southern goodness that left me craving for more.

Charlie's has the feel of a long standing local treasure. It's the sort of local place that stood the test of time somehow making it through COVID and we're all better for it. Charlie's has character. It has spirit. It's the kind of place you'd imagine that inspired the bar in the long running TV show Cheers - where everybody knows your name. It was my first time in the joint, but somehow it felt like I was going home. Maybe it was because they treated us like family. They sincerely cared about us and worked in earnest to ensure we were well served and satisfied - but without hassling us. Some of the best service I have had in YEARS. Our food was out SURPRISINGLY fast, and it disappeared off our plates pretty quickly too 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
