Old Smokehouse

Best barbecue in San Antonio. If I remember correctly, this establishment was opened by former staff of the legendary Bob's Smokehouse on Rigsby, where artists like B.B. King would go whenever they played in town. Thank goodness Old Smokehouse kept Bob's original recipes. Potato salad is the old-fashioned mustardy kind: creamy, with subtle onion flavor and celery crunch. Coleslaw has a tangy vinaigrette and fresh cracked pepper. Beans are thick, rich, and smoky. And then you get to the brisket: tender and moist, with a slightly salty bark and smoke flavor that goes all the way through. Pork ribs are juicy, meaty, and moist. Barbecue heaven. And no, it isn't cheap, but you pay for quality. Nothing phony about this food: This is the real deal.

Ok, just a few words bout the Old Smokehouse....... It reminds of the way BBQ use too be, BBQ back in the good ole days....! Broke down inside and out and hot 🔥 as hell, people sitting and eating while sweating. No air conditioner and the fans don't always blow air, so don't even bother setting under them. These places seemingly have the very best BBQ simply cause they put the money into the food, so the Old Smokehouse is definitely on point...The meat was full of that smoky down home flavor, flavor you could taste clearly in every bite...And the young man slicing the meat AKA Big Smokie, let us sample every piece with BBQ sauce on the side..... Wow talk about service, now that's service over the top.....Crazy I usually take a pic of the food when sharing my dining experiences, but I forgot cause it was absolutely incredible........ 💯 We will be headed back on tomorrow to pick up some ribs, so I'll drop a pic then.......Lol Well here you go went back to get those ribs and decided to get more brisket to, this is scrumptious dinning at it's best......! Definitely adding the Old Smokehouse to my dinning list, when I'm visiting San Antonio......

Ok... let me tell you how it went...when I saw it from out side it looked like part of the retail... but the smell out was drawing me in... And as I walked in.. you're transported into a Old Smoke.. and had a lot of room.. walk to the back to take your order. And the food came out... and mouth started to water. The food was amazing. Overall experience all I can say is wow... I'll definitely come back... check out my photos... and hope to see y'all there.

I checked out the reviews before we went and some are spot on, some are way over valuing their personal bbq preference. I had the brisket and sausage, both are spot on. Brisket was moist, sausage was not rubbery, greasy, or mealy. The potato salad is sweet, the slaw is sweet, and the sauce is sweet. It's not bad it's just sweeter than some. If you're in the area, it's good.

In town visiting family when I was invited to dinner with some of their closest friends. They said BBQ was on the menu. The smell from the parking lot let’s you know your in a serious chow-fest. They did not disappoint, damn this place is awesome!!! A baby could eat the brisket, it just that tender and perfect. The chicken, beef, pork, the side items no complaints. Just need more, now, I’m not joking!!! The sweet potato pie, don’t get me started again, need more !!! And what a great bunch of guys who take their BBQ very serious. Very friendly and welcoming.
