The Hopping Pig Gastropub

Enjoyed some appetizers and drinks on St. Patricks Day at 'The Hopping Pig' First of all- what an innovative creative business name! The restaurant was very busy, and the service was outstanding. Loves the decor and music, and use of light to enhance the whole experience. We go out to eat a lot, and for 3 servers to meet all customer's needs who were there was amazing. I didn't see a single patron waiting for anything. We were seated near the back, and there was a blonde haired supervisor (or owner?) watching over everything, and and jumping in to help as needed. She seemed very effective! Just loved this restaurant,and will definitely return during our next visit to San Diego! There were many places that we saw downtown that catered to college kid age crowd, and The Hopping Pig customer base was a little older, (like us), looking for a more relaxing experience- and we found it! Sophistication is the word that comes to mind.

Great craft beer selection - probably one of the best in Gaslamp. Poutine fries were delicious. Good $4.50 prices on certain beers for happy hour. Went here before and after a concert at House of Blues. Nighttime bartender wasn't knowledgeable about beer and heard her tell customers that asked about a beer selection that a quad was a stout. Clearly she was good at mixing drinks but not knowledgeable about beer types.

It was good, although I was expecting much more based off of how much it was talked up. The food was good, however the menu seemed a bit small. With a name like Hopping Pig I was expecting more in terms of BBQ. Couldn't find any pulled pork on the menu. Their beer selection was pretty good. They do have happy hour specials on some of their beers but they discount isn't too great.
