Okina Sushi

I've been going here a long time and it's one of my favorite little hidden gems. I've loathed telling other than close friends about this place cause it's small and can get too crowded sometimes and I get turned away at times showing up without a reservation... but it's time to grow up and stop being so selfish. Sushi is authentic and reasonably priced, cash only, no non-sense kind of place. There's better top of the line sushi at other high end places but Okina's combination of price, freshness, preparation and cozy experience makes it a 5 star place in my book. Hard to find due to little signage and hard to park, but worth the trouble. Japanese owner chef is talented and sometimes talkative, sometimes not and it helps to stay on his good side : )

We've been coming for years. It's the best in The City IOurHO (based not on knowing all of the Sushi bars in the city, but on total satisfaction with the quality, price and traditionally authentic sushi). Only open Thur-Sat. Tiny. Call before 5:30 to make a reservation for one of the two tables that seat 4 each, the one table that seats 2, or the bar that seats 6

Okina is one of my favorite new sushi finds. Fresh sushi, great service and made by a chef who truly loves his craft. The place is small and it's only opens 3 nights -- Thursday to Saturday but you can call to make reservations. Go for the omakase and let the chef decide for you. I heard he gets up at 4am to buy fresh fish. Cash only. The Arguello Market is right next door.

A good friend of mine born in Japan recommended this place as the best sushi restaurant in SF and I was not disappointed. Everything was traditional and sleek and honed to perfection. We ordered some a la carte items and a wide assortment of omakase and the whole table was cooing with delight. This place is a gem. Wonderful service, great environment, and absolutely top notch sushi.
