San Yuan Ge

This Chinese cuisine restaurant is located within IMM. Was there on a random day and decided to pop in for an early lunch before the crowds came in. As we were the first diners, the level of attention we got was impeccable. As more customers eventually came in, they got a tiny bit less polished, but still good. Food wise it was alright, some dishes were better than the others. The dishes that were better were on the more bland end of the spectrum, as it seems to be either overly generous in salt content, or overly stringent, with none that will fall in the ideal level that is in the in between. Overall, it’s an edible lunch, but not really memorable.

A random visit to IMM, was trying for Haidilao but the q was 3 hours. So we randomly pick San Yuan Ge for our dinner. To our surprise, the food was beyond amazing. We ordered their speciality, steamed fish with tons of seafood sides. Everything in that pot was super fresh, fish lala squid prawn were all fabulous. The noodles soak up the seafood broth and transform into the main star in the dish. Service was exceptional and price was reasonable. There is also mala version too. Had the promo fish pot @ $79.90. The prawn not fresh, heads were black and this is the first time I didn't suck the prawn heads. Clams fishy, the fish so so. Don't know if it's because the food are promotional price that why no good, but freshness should definitely not be compromised! Don't think I'll return to give other dishes a chance.

Went during Saturday dinner time. Ordered the seafood platter as well as some dishes. Seafood platter was really big but the baby lobsters and prawns weren’t very fresh as the meat were marshy. Fish was okay. Claypot chicken with lala was pretty good as well as the tofu with crab. Felt pressurised to leave the restaurant once there was a queue outside because I felt stares from the staffs. Food was okay, service can be better, price is abit on the high.

Interesting selection of food! Very good flavour yet, it lacks the true personality of a top top traditional restaurant. Not bad for a restaurant in the mall and the hotpot was well displayed. Will come here again if I can't find any other better places in the area:) The Siam coconut was fun good work! Ps the egg tarts aren't worth it..
