Taj Indian Sweets & Restaurant

Like a bad cricket team the south indian thali at Maya's is a little hit and miss. We didn't stick around for the dine in experience and perhaps an authentic thali dish would've made the experience better. We also missed out on the desert. A couple of the curries were extremely watery and a little meh while the other half was pretty good. We had a couple of pooris which I'm sure I've never had before. They were ok. I'm beginning to feel that in most cases taking away dairy, ghee and yoghurt from sub Continental food really hurts it's completeness. There's not many points of reference. Green mushroom bucks the trend but they are 💯 vegan. They're currently the pedestal.

I came here hoping to eat some nice chaat. I got an aloo tikki with red and green cabbage as topping , thankfully they kept the yoghurt out as requested.thank you for that. Tikki was decent but far too much sweet chutney as also on the dahi Puri without dahi. For the next round I asked for a samosa , which was burnt at the base and replaced and a vada pav 8.95$ which was never served. Finally after about 10-15 mins when I went to the counter to enquire the girl at the counter turned around to her colleague to ask " did he get the vada pav or not".I said I wouldn't come to the counter if I hadn't been served do you think I'm lying to you. This is nonsense, I said to them eat it yourself and left. Happy to donate food for these guys . Not happy to an otherwise ok experience. But just book not great .dirty tables not cleared ..and no cutlery to eat my tikki were some other highlights..I had to go and get myself. Feel cheated and won't go back .

It's been renamed as Maya Masala. Delighted to have a pure veg restaurant in Sydney. It's been my first time and it was pretty decent experience. Liked the mango lassi considering I am picky about the taste of Mango Lassi the world over. The quantity served was very good. We ordered Punjabi thali and it was filling. 4 curries, 2 rotis (one of them buttered), a sweet, raita, papad, pickle & pulav. Pics attached. Overall a good place to treat family &/ friends. The only 1 thing I would have expected is staff asking us if we need any help as it was a first time & we expected them to seat us whereas you need to order your food first before you sit anywhere. We ended up standing for 5 min and then we ourselves had to approach the counter.

This was the most amazing dosa in Sydney so far. I really loved it, especially that red chutney and sambar. However, the front staff was bit rude, but the girl who served my food was wonderful. I loved the ambience and bollywood song in the background. I also took some gulab jamun as a takeaway, which was Ok! But the peanut barfi was marvellous, fresh and perfect amount of sweetness.

We’ve dined here for the past ten years and the place has gone through a lot of changes - we’ve seen the restaurant change it’s decor, its dishes, and it has consistently improved. I really admire that about Maya’s - it never stops growing. It’s a wonderful place to eat some yummy vegetarian comfort food, without it being drenched in oil or too spicy (I’m allowed to say this, I am Indian hah) and it even has a lovely sweets counter with a lot of variety. The facilities are always clean and inviting. If anything, I just wish sometimes that the sweets were a bit fresher, but this is a minor thing compared to the rest of its positive aspects.
