Finally found our local roaster! After a trip abroad this summer we decided to buy a quality grinder and espresso machine. Unfortunately every local roaster we have tried so far has not been up to par, either inconsistent beans or poor flavor. But finally we found Cortez Coffee! They not only hit the mark, they surpassed it! Fresh roasted beans made every order and perfect taste!

My first visit to a coffee roastery, learned a lot from the owner Ron Cortez.
04.27.2023 I'm a semi-regular, I always learn something new from Ron. This is primarily the retail and tasting location
10.23.2023 stopped by for a chat, got to try a new coffee. Coffin kicker, a robusta from Cameroon. Robusta has a bad rap, this coffee is really good, to my taste a note of popcorn, and well worth trying for something different than the typical arabica

Just got my first order in the other day, ordered whole bean from Nepal. Shipping was fast. Their website is awesome. Top notch customer service is definitely their focus.
The coffee itself is next level. The scent, the appearance, the taste is caffeinated perfection. I'd write this coffee a poem if it could read. I can't pick out flavors like nutty creamy caramel, because my palate is not up to par apparently, but it tastes simply awesome. You'd be committing a crime against nature by putting anything in this. However, it's your beans so you do with them what you will, I'm doing mine neat.
Next up is the Volcan Azul and I can't wait to try that.
Coffee fans you must absolutely check this company out.

So, this is not a storefront anymore, it is just their roasting headquarters. It used to have a small countertop bar but I think that moved downtown. They’re closed to the public right now. Their actual coffee shop (congrats on opening) is on 2245 E Washington Ave. There you can get them to make you a cup or espresso.
Their coffee is hands down the freshest, the tastiest, and the most convenient. I’ve been mail-ordering beans recently, but in the past it was easy to walk in, get a tour of the facility, and pick and choose from the huge blue plastic totes of beans (see other review pictures). Now, I think with permits/license, it’s too much a headache for them to do.
Skip the grocery stores, stick with the street cred. Get coffee beans that are roasted in town one day and on your doorstep the next day. You’ll pay the premium per pound but you deserve difference in quality.

Ron is an amazing educator on making an expresso. His coffee is fabulous. He spends time explaining about the beans and the differences. Shop is clean and pleasant to be in.

Great experience buying coffee. I was treated very nice. I even got some tips on brewing espresso. It makes a really nice shot and latte.
Heavily recommend

These guys are phenomenal! They take you in and treat you like family. They really take pride in the entire coffee/chocolate making process, from the beans to the down to the final product, and it really shows in their flavors. I really enjoyed the entire team's personality. They were all very friendly, and willing to explain what they do, and why they love working here. Such and awesome little shop!

Couldn’t have had a better experience looking for locally roasted beans. It’s a small shop that they opened up recently since for the last few decades they’ve just been roasting for wholesale. It’s small but intimate, clean, and a very cool vibe with one of the owners there telling his old music playing stories with a local regular customer while his wife and other employee behind the counter shower you with hospitality as they show you their flag ship beans and even home made chocolate. I tried an espresso and pour over of their flag ship primo bean and both were excellent. I tried a sample of their chocolate and I’m glad my wife wasn’t with me because i would’ve walked out with a case load. One of the best coffee shop experiences I’ve ever had and i was just trying to rush in to get some beans while running around doing errands. I don’t think i would come here to sit all day and do my work, but instead i would come here for the coffee shop version of a cheers experience.

Amazing place, can’t believe it took me so long to find this hidden gem in Tempe. They have the best coffee and chocolate and know everything about how to make a great espresso. Patrick is so friendly and knowledgeable. I’ll be going back every weekend to pick up fresh beans for the week

This place. They say "give us a minute to get you fresh beans from the back... in the meantime would you like to try some.." yes. Yes I would like to try some...
And suddenly you've spent $75 and you're pretty sure it involves coffee and chocolate but with the caffeine buzzing through your skull you're not really positive. Once you stop levitating you know you're going to go back and do it again just as soon as you run out of beans.
