Steak 'n Shake

1st time in the new self serve restaurant. Jeffrey, the host, was all over, everywhere the entire time we were there. Super friendly! The food came out fast and was delicious. Not that we don't miss the old school service and condiments on the table but for a big change like this, they're doing it right!

All of the kiosks were inoperable, so difficult to order. No menus available. Had to try and guess the menu from memory. Cook stated that someone would take our order, but it took so long I was looking on my phone for another local restaurant. The order taker also appeared to be covering the busy drive thru and appeared to be very annoyed by dealing with customers in the store. Generally, a disappointing experience. Not at all like my usual experiences with this location.

Man who was as old as me and had previously worked for the City. We talked well past his quitting . As I also had several jobs with the city. My first one was in personal,then Lead Poison Control. We had moved into the blog where Streets had some vehicles Explained to him how a guy who worked there had taken one of the trucks through the drive thru at Jack st the Box and he didn't notice the clearance sign and ripped the whole canopy off the store.. The gentleman had also been in the navy. My husband had also been in the Navy. Talked about the ships. We were very knowledgeable of the ships and the Ford which was supposed to have a lot of problems and was always going back to get fixed. Great time.He got off and we were talking and a couple came out said they weren't dealing with a machine to order. So he took them back in and showed them how to use it. It was a great day for me as I am a widow. And it was nice to talk to a widower who has already married someone and could talk about our mutual past. .

On a whim today, my husband and I stopped by this Steak n Shake for lunch. We haven't been to one since before Covid. I was proud of myself because I thought I'd successfully placed our order at the Kiosk for the first time. However, when our food came, it was missing fries. I talked to Mark, the manager on duty, and he was so nice. He explained I'd actually made a choice to substitute chili (for fries) instead of adding chili which is what I wanted to do. I thanked him for that feedback because next time I'll know how to add (and not substitute) an item. He graciously gave me a small fry so I wouldn't have to try to navigate the Kiosk again to get my fries. Mark took customer service to an awesome level. I really appreciate him. We will be back. In addition, the food was hot and good. The only other employee we dealt with was the young man at the pickup counter. He, also, was friendly. Great Steak n Shake!!

Definitely not the steak n shake I remember from years ago. Very limited interactions with staff due to automated ordering, floors were sticky, and cups/utensils area needed a refill. Food was alright, recipes have changed for sure as the chili is no longer what it used to be. Burger was pretty good, but fries were not quite done all the way through. It was just a meh experience compared to years ago.

Food was good. Perfect for an affordable burger. My husband loves this place but it isn't anything special to me. I ordered the Texan BBQ burger. It was good and exactly as described. My husband had the triple stack without cheese. We came at 1:45 and it was busy. It took about 20 minutes to get our food once ordered. Server was nice and I could tell everyone was busy.

We were able to get seated right away despite the noon rush. I had the Taco Salad for lunch. It was okay, have I had better, yes but not for $4.99. The service was prompt and friendly. This S&S location provides a drive through and a bar counter. It also has a couple of machines that will take your money in hopes of winning a stuffed toy. You pay your bill at the counter. As always, you will be the best judge. Enjoy.
