About Thyme Cafe

Oh, wow -- what a find!! We arrived at a perfect "thyme" before the lunch rush, so they had time to tell us about the " Weird Wednesday" menu items -- different, but yummy! We had the grilled Watermelon Salad and Shrimp & Grits with Fried Avocado Wedges, and Angel Food French Fries for dessert. Other patrons told us they come here specifically for the Avocado Wedges and the tomato basil soup. Great place!!

We came in around 2pm, the service was okay. The food on the other hand was very disappointing. We ordered a chicken fried steak that came out over cooked and absolutely swimming in gravy, my son did not complain but I would have been upset if it was mine. My husband had a fish special on rice that was bland but edible. I had the chicken club, the hand dipped chicken breast had sooooo much potential, but again was extremely overcooked. We had ordered an appetizer of parmesan fries that was completely forgotten. We ordered a pork pizza to go right after placing our order. The wait to receive our food was longer than expected considering we were the only ones there. My husband and son were almost completely done with their meals by the time I received mine. We waited for about 15 to 20 minutes after they had finished eating waiting on the pizza. That is when they offered to also comp the fries and send them Togo as well. I would like to say that the fries and pizza were by far the best thing that we ordered. The server did try to make up for the service by also comping 2 cupcakes. Unfortunately I had really high hopes for this place. I hope that their cook really gets their act together, or maybe we just caught them on a bad day, I don't know. I won't be coming back though.

Went for the first time about two weeks ago. Husband ate the grilled watermelon and salmon salad. Perfectly prepared! The salmon was delicious. In was cooked through without being overdone. I had the BLT with rosemary fries. I loved every bite. We finished with a bacon salted Carmel brownie which we shared. Yummy! Anna Simpson

Extremely overpriced for the portions they are serving. It's nearly a dollar for each fried avacado wedge. The burger patty was maybe three inches across and looks rediculous on the bun. The burger tasted unusual but I thought it was good. But for ~$20 per person I was very dissapointed to find I was still hungry. They even jammed the strawberry shortcake into a togo cup which burst in the car on the way home. Later I realized the cake portion was raw and the strawberries very bitter... While I waited 30 minutes for my take-out order I could hear the man sitting on the other side of the room tell his wife he couldn't finish his meal because of the dark grease coming out of his sandwich. Meanwhile the woman in the kitchen yelled through the service window joking about blocking the front door because she wanted to close up early. I understand, long days are not fun. But that makes customers feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. This wasn't a good experience and I unfortunately will be telling folks to steer clear of this place.

Overall, this was a good experience, though I do feel some of the dishes need refinement. The restaurant itself is cute and the staff was extremely friendly. We ordered the jasmine rice balls, pickle spears, Asian burger, buffalo burger, and thyme sandwich. The recipes were certainly inventive. My main issue is with the buffalo burger. It was cooked extremely well and the toppings all looked fresh and crisp, but it was way too salty. I couldnt quite put my finger on where it was coming from, but I believe the patty was way over seasoned. That being said, I would eat the burger again assuming the excess salt is not normal. My other issue is with the jasmine rice balls. The rice balls themself were unique, tasty, and cooked well, but the sauce did not work for me at all as it was just a generic soy/hosin sauce. There's a ton of potential there for a inventive sauce that matches the inventive rice balls. My last criticism is with the window tinting on the outside of the restaurant. It was dark black and it made the restaurant look completely empty. It was not inviting, whereas the inside was the opposite! Let people see how interesting and fun it is in there. :) All this being said, they are doing something different compared to most restaurants in WF and we would all try it again!
