A lot of restaurants have struggled to find their footing in the pandemic, striking some balance of physical safety buffers versus dining experience to varying degrees of success. While steak and shake has a chain still has a lot of waiting times and quality control issues to tackle, I am going to say that, at least for my impressions of this visit, I would recommend this location for a place to grab a bite to eat. We had probably the best meal we've ever had at a S&S today, very well prepared and quick (less than 10 minutes of wait time). The burgers were very well seasoned, and my chili 5-way was excellent as well. Be aware that the entire restaurant has shifted to fully counter service at this point, to the end of a notification posted at the registers reminding people to throw out their own garbage and not to leave it on the table. It's a little bit irksome that they still ask for a tip at checkout, considering that there's no waiter or waitress service, but I chalked that up to being a relic of "the before times" than anything else. It is very easy to get a filling and tasty meal here for two, drinks included, for less than $20 without it *feeling* like typical McDs-tier fast food. Can't say that about many sit down places these days!

I love steak ‘n Shake.. the location in Winston Salem near the mall. Is the closest one around, the service isn’t the best.. even before pandemic the service wasn’t the best. 8 out of 10 times food is great.. I’ve had pretty bad experiences with food and service. But the good out weighs the bad. The employees could put in more effort place would be great. 5/1/21 update.. employees here are the worst, managers should be embarrassed to have such pathetic employees

Steak 'n Shake is one of my favorite places which is why I'm giving 3 stars here because today was disappointing. The food was ok. My only complaint there was the bun on my burger was dry and not fresh. The service was terrible. Brought the wrong shake, got the orders mixed up, we asked to have the shakes after the meal in a to go cup. They came before the meal in a glass cup. Ordered Kit Kat. Got butterfinger instead. Just asked to have it removed from the check and instead she removed a vanilla shake and said it was the same even though it wasn't the same price. Had to have the manager fix it. I'll definitely come back but it will probably be to the Greensboro location as I've had great experiences there.

This place has gone down hill faster than a snowball on top of a mountain. My wife and I came in to eat at 7pm on a Friday night. They were not very busy but the place was trashed. Food on the floor and tables that had not been cleaned since the last customer had eaten. The owners are here but they don't seem to interested in the conditions of their restaurant. The fries are cold and they messed up my wife's order. My hamburger was also in the cold stage. I will place a call into their headquarters about this visit. Do yourself a favor and go eat somewhere else in Winston Salem, NC. This one is located on Stafford Rd by Hanes mall. It is 7:27 and the floor is still nasty.

I used to love this place but "they got rid of the servers" as they put it. But they still make a mean double chocolate Hershey shake. So now everything is just like a take out place. Self serve Too high priced for that. With people with an attitude. And I'll be dog gone if they still cannot get my steakburger right! What is so difficult about doublecheese steak burger all the way no onions add bacon. They have yet to get the bacon on or the onions off. Course down south here in the Carolinas ATW means chilli slaw mustard and CHOPPED onions but the youngsters don't know that unless they were brought up in a southern restaurant family. AND that can be hot dogs, burgers etc.

Very good experience. The waitress did her job well. The double burger I ate had salsa, jalapenos, and crispy onions on it and it was ravishing. The fries were amazing with the parmesan cheese on it even though the portion wasn't as big as I would have liked considering the size of the fries but tasty nonetheless. I got a side of coleslaw and had to add salt and pepper to it though cause it was a tad bland. The strawberry cheesecake shake was to die for.

Great shakes, it's understandably a "park thru" since they put your patties on after you order. Burgers are small for the price, but fresh and worth the cost and wait. Try the garlic burger! Our cashier was less than excited to be serving us. The place is empty and she enjoys not being bothered with customers. Somehow I get the feeling this location, and the long-established 24/7 chain (1930s!) are on their way out. They will be missed by the elders.

We have been here twice and it had been terrible service and the hostess act like your a bother when you walk in to be seated. Waited 15 min for drinks and waited for food for over an hour!! Get it together!!!!!! Food came out wrong so had to wait another 15 min. Rest of the food was cold. Buns a soggy mess. Its fast food not rocket science!!
