Woodys Bar-b-q

This review is a cautionary tale of a brand new restaurant in Augusta serving bland and tasteless barbecue!!! Being born 4 days after July 4th I think I have the authority to say which barbecue is good and not so good, right?!?! I have been eating it even before I was born!!! I was uber excited to try this place out because of course I love barbecue!!! There have been two times in my life where I had to force myself to eat it and this being one of them!!! That's rare for me since I have had some bomb ass barbecue in my day!!! The restaurant is in a great location for great business. It's always crowded when I pass by so I thought that was a good sign!!! I was sadly mistaken. The customer service here is great. I love the fact that they greet each customer walking in with an exuberant, "Welcome to Woody's!!" I didn't know exactly what I wanted sitting down but I quickly decided on the A Taste of Woody's platter. It had turkey, pork, sausage, ribs, barbecue chicken, and two sides with garlic toast. The two sides I ordered mashed potatoes and gravy and collard greens. The turkey and chicken were good but everything else was bland and had no seasoning on it. The ribs and pork were nice cuts of meat and the quality of the meat was great but it had no taste whatsoever. I understand they have several sauces on the table but there is no excuse for not even salt!!! The sausage was a link and it was very soft. I don't like that kind of texture and it was a bit spicy. It would have been fine if it was firmer. The mashed potatoes were instant and the gravy was acceptable. The collard greens were acceptable too. The garlic toast that came with it was tasty as well. I can't see this place priding itself on barbecue and they don't know how to properly season their meat. And why would anyone serve instant potatoes at a restaurant?!?! I doubt I will ever patronize this business again but hey it was worth one try!!!

We found ourselves traveling through Augusta on a Monday afternoon. Searching for a place for a cold beer and a sandwich, we happened to pass Woody's, and thought we'd give them a try. We were greeted as we walked in and sat at the bar. There were maybe 10 beers on tap, but there were dozens of bottled/canned beers in display coolers. The variety was impressive. I ordered a brisket sandwich, and enjoyed it very much. The meat was sliced thick, and was VERY tender, and had a wonderful smoked flavor. It came on a kaiser type roll that held up well, but was light and airy. My friend had a half rack of ribs that were very flavorful and tender. We both felt the prices were a bargain for the quality/quantity of food. The bartenders and servers were friendly and engaging. I will certainly return the next time I'm in the area.

This is the worst experience I have had getting BBQ in the south. Arrived at around 2 in the afternoon it was only three people that were eating there. You would think that we would be served promptly but no we waited 10 minutes just to order. I ordered the Woody's sampler and the chicken was dry and not flavorful and the only thing that was actually good was the sausage. The waitress only came by one time and we were there for an entire hour. And no joke it took this woman 15 minutes to process our credit card.

There was a huge line when I went, but it was well worth it. The Woody's signature baby back ribs was one of the best things I've ever eaten; would definitely recommend it for 2-3 people to share. The Sloppy Woody and baked beans were also amazing. I don't think you can really go wrong with anything on the menu. was also pretty good, both at the counter and in helping you find a table. Would definitely recommend to everyone (also vegetarians)!

Don't go there. Food ok. Management and staff inadequately staffed, to say the least. Expect to wait a long while to be waited on or even acknowledged. Went there a week before Christmas( a Saturday night) expecting very large crowds for dinner. Nope. Only a bartender , 2 servers and a manager working the floor that night. A big party and a few tables were all that was occupied. Not busy at all. Went in to ask a question to the manager about a coupon/gift card we had. Never heard from her the whole 30 minutes we were there; even asked for the manager specifically and never got acknowledged. Got more attention from the bartender than anybody else. Ended up going somewhere else for dinner. I will never go back there again (even though I love Woody's BBQ a lot). Will have it someplace else whenever I go out of town. When it first opened, it was great. Now 3 years later, it has gone totally downhill. Why????

ORIGINALLY A 5 STAR BUT DROPPED TO ONE STAR!! Our waitress, Alexis, was wonderful!! She made sure we had everything we needed, she was very respectful, and my glass was never empty!! The food was absolutely amazing!! Very very tasteful and came out just as fast as we ordered it!! If you are looking for a nice, clean, and affordable place to eat... This is definitely the place to go!! Thank you again, Alexis!! Update: Went back today to find out Alexis over charged us for our food by over $5 after leaving her a $10 tip and they said there is nothing they can do about it due to us paying in cash. They were so rude to us after we brought it up. ((After us clearly stating we were in no way putting the blame on them and that it was most definitely on Alexis)) The bartender pretty much turned into our waitress who kept making it pretty clear to us that she was not our waitress... In the most rude way ever!! They didn't even have the food I wanted. Said "the ribs are still in the OVEN!! Point being... Don't eat here. Just choose ANYWHERE else but here to eat!! A local just informed us Pete's Pig BBQ is the best place to go around here for BBQ!! So try that out instead!! They have actual bbq and nothing but good reviews. Its apparently THE place to go around here.
