The Boo

My family and I had the pleasure of enjoying Father's Day at the Booroodabin Bowls Club, this place is affectionately known as The Boo. This Lawn Bowls club was established back in 1888 & has honor boards that show many champion bowlers from the past. This family friendly place is well known for its Barefoot Bowls & booking in advance is advisable due to the popularity of this social activity. Many thousands of people on a yearly basis enjoy a social outing here at The Boo. The staff at The Boo go the extra mile to ensure everything is provided to enjoy a game of Barefoot Bowls. The menu at The Boo caters for everyone including people who have special needs & there is a children menu included. The friendly bar staff ensure you are well looked after with a great range of wines, spirits & assorted beers, either on tap or by stubbies as required. The Boo is well set up to ensure strict Covid-19 restrictions are in place. Toilets are onsite & limited onsite parking is available for everyone including disabling parking. Brisbane City Council Bus services also run past this place. I believe Bus Stop 11 on Breakfast Creek Road, Newstead is the best drop off point. The Boo also has the capacity to cater for Corporate events, weddings, Bucks & Hens nights & many other social outings. Check out their website for any other matters that The Boo can assist you with. It was a nice sunny day to sit outside and enjoy the fresh air and have a lovely meal. Tables are aldo available inside and under cover, but we elected to sit outside on this beautiful day. The fish and chips (barramundi) was really fresh and tasty. We also had spring rolls and despite being delicious I thought was a bit overpriced at 3 for $15.00. Service was great and it was nice to not have to search for parking - we parked in the grassey parking area right next to the club. We will definitely be returning.

Very relaxed place to bowl as they let people on the lawns with shoes (which I found a bit offputting). The instructions to bowl were poor because afterwards, our group didn't know where to place the white ball or that we had to step on the mat or how to bowl. Many of the people threw the ball from a high distance - which would have been disallowed in a lot of clubs. Nobody at the club seemed to care so oh well! The food was mediocre. My burger was filled with BBQ sauce which I don't like so I think they should have let us put our own sauce on like with the chips.
