Le Gamin Country

Great experience. Found myself on Hudson with an hour to kill. Popped in, was seated right away, super friendly staff. Everything on the menu sounded good...settled for beet salad, ham and cheese sandwich, and banana/chocolate crepes. Everything was fantastic. I love that they brew their own iced tea with gourmet teas. All in all a great experience. Good value for the level of service and quality of food. I would go back there again!!

My review got deleted so I'm posting again. We ordered 5 things, egg Benedict with salmon, French toast with grilled pineapple, a fruit smoothie and a freshly squeezed orange juice. Apparently we also ordered the French onion soup but never received it. That was charged on our bill. Price wise the food was pretty worth it, the ambiance is very retro which was nice, and the plating of the food was very well done. This place is also cash only.

The croissants are really the only reason I stop at this place when in town. The coffee isn’t bad, but there are plenty of other options for good coffee along Warren Street. I think the reason this place is still open is because of the aesthetic. They certainly know how to plate a dish and the place itself is adorable. Not so adorable? The guy everyone else seems to complain about in their reviews. It is not an exaggeration to say that the guy is pretentious. As we sat there, I actually thought to myself how I felt that he truly believed it was a privilege for me to eat at this establishment. It was just unnecessarily awkward.

A very pretentious place that I wouldn't recommend. We were greeted with a strange sense of entitlement from presumably the owner who seemingly didn't like talking to customers much - which was fine by me. The food was okay, the coffee was quite average, the overall service was poor. No napkins with out food despite asking, no milk given for our coffees despite asking, no spoon for someone's fruit salad despite asking. The lad who worked there was nice, greeted and served with a smile. The older woman who worked there was sour and seemingly unhappy. As a young lad, only just starting to work, I went to pay a $44 dollar bill for my family, and ask if they could make it $50 - a 12% tip I felt worthy of the underwhelming service and environment. The older woman, who I assume owned the place, in response told me 'that tip isn't big enough'. I smiled as I thought it was a joke. She continued 'seriously, that tip isn't big enough, it's not okay'. I awkwardly went to sit back down with my family. A tip is not a requirement - there is no law when tipping that you have to give anything. A tip, is a contribution to the place that served you. It should be an amount that you deem fits with the service provided. This service was poor and they were lucky to receive 12% in all honesty. She didn't stop there. As I was leaving, I was talking to my girlfriend in front of me and caught eyes with the owner. She proceeded to follow me out of the restaurant and bluntly ask 'what did you say about me?' I replied 'Nothing'. She returned to her restaurant. I reiterate, I am a young lad. She is an older woman of experience. This was such a rude, hostile end to an average pit stop in our day. I am still in disbelief she thinks what she did was okay. I do not recommend going here. Having walked down Wareen Street there are plenty of much more catering places to eat or drink coffee. As for the owner, I hope she can quickly find some joy in her life.

We only came in for a coffee and a snack - the person whom I can only assume was the manager was incredibly rude - initially by telling us directly that our tip wasn’t enough for them - despite being the easiest order order going, then following us outside to confront us, asking what our problem was. We quite obviously have no problem, as a visiting family, brand new to the area, except for a ruined meal. The manager’s attitude really was so unexpected and abrasive that it soured what would have been a lovely day - it even looked like the other staff members were embarrassed themselves. I would have given this review a lower score, had the rest of the staff not actually been quite professional and welcoming.

Would like to give this place a half of a star but unfortunately can’t find the option. The staff here is the most dismissive, rudest individuals I have ever met in the food industry. The food was nothing special, I think people think it is good because of how they display the food. Its also not “up-scale” at all. There was a lipstick stain on the glasses of water. We didn’t even bother to tell them because they are so nasty to speak to. It has a very pretentious vibe to it- if you don’t know how to speak to people then don’t work at a restaurant. There are plenty of other jobs.
