Mat's Cafe & Catering

I consider myself a bit of a pulled pork connoisseur and Mat’s is truly at the top of my list of best BBQ. When I see pulled pork BBQ offered at an eatablishment, I order it to see how good, or bad, it is. I do this even when traveling out of state. Mat’s is hands-down some of the best BBQ I’ve ever eaten - even compared to BBQ from down south. Also, I greatly enjoy the atmosphere at the cafe. Very relaxing for a nice lunch. The sides served are great, too. So good!!

Of course there are healthier options too. His salads are huge, green, and topped with dried cherries, blue cheese, and your choice of dressing.Hands down so good! Ordered turkey, bbq pulled pork, beans and Au gratin potatoes. Turkey was nice and moist. I don't eat pork but the guest loved the Pulled pork and said it was flavorful. The beans were gone in an hour.

It's right downtown Jackson, and I never knew it was here! When you walk in, it is clear, that it is set up much like a deli. You are served quickly, so it is a great option for lunch, and probably even smarter to take some home for dinner. They have everything that you could want, sandwiches, paninis, salads, stuffed baked potatoes, and so many sides to choose from, like coleslaw, macaroni and cheese, and corn bread. Even the pickles are great! The pulled pork, corned beef and pastrami were excellent, actually the best we have ever had!. So was the mac and cheese! The portions are giant sized. You will not go home hungry! Everyone that ate lunch seemed to clean their plates, there was not a complaint by anyone! Instead of driving to Ann Arbor, you have got to get in here, and give it a try. They have limited hours, so you really have to make an effort to get in. Monday thru Thursday 11am to 3pm Friday 11 to 8. I recommend that you come as early as you can before they run out of anything!

Consistently good lunch! They are fast, inexpensive and large portions. A convenient lunch in downtown Jackson, their special usually includes a large chicken BBQ sandwich with one side- slaw, sweet potato fries, etc, and a drink- all for about $9.
