Maid-rite Drive In

Hometown classic! We've been eating here since we were little kids! Great fast food and some days are better than others, just depends upon the cook! There's been a lot of turnover in the staff over the years, but, kid's come and go! The owner, Eddie, is great to talk to when you catch him! The building is showing its serious age of the 1950s and sends to be deteriorating as time goes on! The awning over all the parked vehicles at the order stations is gone. One of the seats was missing and nothing but a metal flat post to sit upon while waiting! Due to Covid you can only take your order to go, no eating in! The staff is quite attentive and the same exact system from over the years! The food is still good "Maid-Rite" food as I'd always been, but, the prices have skyrocketed over the years, so, don't be surprised! We still love their Maid-Rite, Cheese Rite, French fries and tacos! The ice cream is one of the best around, and worth the money and the wait! You won't be let down! Enjoy this iconic fast food, everybody does when they return "home!"

There are only 32 (by my count) Maid-Rite[tm] drive-ins in the United States, most of them in Iowa. Missouri is blessed with only three. Their "seasoned loose-meat" sandwiches are, to my palate, a Midwestern delicacy, enjoyed too rarely. I noticed this one in Lexington on a motorcycle ride this summer, and, boy howdy, did that sandwich -- paired with their (traditionally barely) chocolate shake -- hit the spot. With curbside service, built on decades of experience, this location in lovely Lexington, Mo., makes for an excellent pandemic-friendly motorcycle destination dining experience. The Maid-Rite menu also includes salads, but I have no idea what they're like. I also see a Blue-Rite, though; sho I gotta go back for that.

The claim to fame is a lose meat sandwich called Maid Rite. It had good flavor and you could order with cheese if you want. They had other sandwiches too. It is like stepping back to the 60's as it is a drive in and cash only. so been on a quest for a lose meat sandwich like I had growing up in McCook Neb at a place called Peters. This is near that but not quite.

This place is amazing. Even though it took some time for them to get to us it was totally worth the wait! I would sit there four 3 hours if I have nothing going on. It’s just that worth it. The staff is so kind and HARD WORKING. In the time we sat there waiting we watched people not have patience and yell at the employees who are running all over already. Have patience if you’re going to this place. It’s worth it.

Maid Rite is a local favorite and has been for 70 years. Maid Rites are comparative to a Sonic in the fact they are a drive in. There is also limit indoor seating when opened with 3 or 4 booths and counter seating. I usually get the cheese rite with the works and onion rings. There shakes and melts are all really good also. Good place to stop with friendly staff. CASH ONLY...
