South Side Tavern

I’m giving them two stars because the owner is polite and we were once a week customers (at least) for the last 2-3 years! The first incident which occurred back in January I looked passed because the owner seems so nice and I’ve always had okay delivery encounters. In January the driver swore at me and threw my order at me because he had waited not even a minute for me to try to find him a cash tip ( I usually pay over the phone with my debit card for my food) I called and complained, got an apology, okay cool. Continued to order from them. Last Friday I placed an order, paid ahead. Waited way too long for it to arrive like it had been over by a fricken car! First off the driver was acting very suspicious and claimed he had been calling me when this was a flat out lie. I had my phone in my hands and showed him “look no missed calls” said he rang our door bell but we have security cameras that would have been alerted us so that was a lie. We got spaghetti and meatballs and two burgers. The food was squished to smithereens and the sauce from the spaghetti leaked onto the burgers and fries leaving behind a big mess and mushy burger bun and fries. I called and told the girl what had happened for her to switch me over the the owner who apologized and offered a $20 credit towards our next order (The total was over $40) I thanked him but they have lost our business.

Visited with some friends. The gyro was very good. Hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The pita bread tasted very fresh as well. The staff was friendly. Only downside was the "double" order of fries I got with the gyro seemed like the amount of a single order. But some of the other portions I saw with the folks I was with were massive. The lamb leg was huge. The shrimp pasta was more than one could eat. And the eggplant calzone (or that is what it looked like) was big and looked great. Will definitely be back.

It took me some time to come to terms with writing this review because I did not want to have to leave a bad review. I have ordered door dash delivery through them for the last few months. While my order was never 100% accurate a single time (missing cheese, wrong type of fries, missing other ingredients, etc), for the most part it was good enough & never serious enough to complain. I'm sure door dash orders come thru weird on their computers & may be unclear. However, my most recent experience was horrifying & very disheartening. My fiance ordered directly with the tavern for pick up, I wrote down my order for him on pen & paper so he couldn't get it wrong (BLT club w/ extra mayo). He brought it to me while I was working, and I went to eat it a couple of hours later. I discovered that instead of a BLT club with extra mayo, I got a regular BLT, except, there was no lettuce, and no mayo at all. I called the tavern and spoke with a manager, he was very kind, compassionate, and wanted to resolve the issue immediately which I greatly appreciated, even offering to deliver it to me at no cost with no question. Upon delivery of the corrected club, it was indeed a club with all ingredients this time. However, to my dismay each of the toothpicks had been snapped in half at relatively the same exact place on the picks, and none were pierced through the sandwich all the way like intended. I have spoken with others since this happened since I wanted to chalk it up to an accident or maybe they needed to break them to have the sandwich fit, but this had NEVER happened before and the picks fit just fine in ever other delivery. This is food tampering & highly illegal. I was hurt that someone could do this. It is a serious offense to mess with someone's food, and I was scared that they may have done something else to the food that I didn't know about so I tossed it. I am hesitant to eat out anywhere now due to this situation. I work at a nearby hotel and have always highly recommended this tavern to our guests at check in. I will never reccomend them again as I would be horrified and feel partially responsible sending my guests to a restaurant where this could happen to them. No one deserves this. I will be telling my agents the same, & we will no longer offer their menus to the guests.

I didn't have high expectations of this place given that it is connected to a low budget "casino". We went because most places were closed. The food was fantastic!! With a large variation to choose from including pizza, pasta, sandwiches, apps, salads, and entrees, it wasn't an easy decision. I got the caeser salad and carbonara, my friend got the turkey club. The portions were huge and omg, soooooo good!! Honestly, one of the best pasta dishes I've had. The bartender was also very friendly, knowledgeable, and added to the experience!!

Honestly... the restuarant is small inside but the food is great. The staff is friendly and attentive. They have plenty of TVs to keep all the games going and if you're a gambler, the casino is just across the hallway. There are some machines in the restaurant but I was told they are not like the casinos, whatever that means( I dont gamble). Their location is great, located right across the street from 2 good hotels with some shopping surrounding the area. The bar staff took time to know your name and would tell you theirs. But the main thing is the food I ordered. I wasn't informed of the size of the food I was ordering but I was greatly impressed. Calzones is what i ordered, and i said a full, (Trying to be a big shot.) Instead of a half. Well I wasn't disappointed. The food came promptly and was good. I'll be back the next time I cut across Mansfield New Hampshire.
