Cookie's Drive-in

Cookies is an east sac staple. It’s been there for 50 years or very close to it. My parents took me there just about every week growing up and I’m 50 now. The family that runs it is great also, they are like family. I don’t live in Sac anymore but when I go though there it’s a must stop for a great burger and shake.

I can not believe in all my time in Sacramento I had yet to visit this classic burger stand. It was just as you expect. Great spot to stop for an inexpensive meal, especially in this financial squeeze we are in. It won’t me the last time I stop by for a quick bite! It reminded me of the classic McDonald’s setup I have seen portrayed in film.

I have been trying different burgers from this place and I have been enjoying the things on their menu. I have tried 3 of their exotic burgers - the Wild Boar-ger, the Buffalo Burger, and the Elk Burger. The Wild Boar-ger and the Buffalo Burger were good, but the Elk Burger was amazing. The meat and flavor of all of the things it had melted in my mouth so beautifully. I was in a state of bliss while I ate it. The food is a bit pricey but it's pure quality. All of the seating is outdoors. I had the fries and they were good, but I think if they were thicker and were to add seasonings with the salt, they would be 1000 times better.

I can't believe I used to drive by Cookie's every week and not stop in to try it. Since they're known primarily as a burger place and I'm vegetarian, I just assumed that it was another grilled meat drive-in. However, they do have Beyond burger on the menu, which was excellent: juicy, tender, loaded with flavor. (Vegans, ask them to leave off the cheese if you order their "everything" burger, which also includes tomato, onion, and lettuce.) I didn't order a milkshake, another house specialty, but the friends who were with me said theirs were "the best." It does get extremely busy between noon and 1:30 p.m. (You put in your order at the window and wait for them to call you when it's done, which seems to confuse some people. It's not fast food, everything is cooked from scratch.) The small indoor dining room is closed at this time, though there are tables and chairs outdoors.

Had the bacon blue cheese burger. And it was one of the best burgers I had in a while!! The patty was Angus meat and the blue cheese was soo damn tasty and the lettuce was fresh and the tomato was as well the bun just set toped it off it was some damn good bread they use. Will definitely come back soon.
