Sushi Masa

Very unassuming Japanese restaurant with a back to basics mentality. You'll find no Instagram worthy monster sized rolls drizzled in sauces. Just quality basic sushi like what you might find in Japan. Overall very tasty and very friendly staff. The only thing missing was a hearty 'irrashimase!' by staff

Good fresh salmon roe and nigiri. The sashimi lunch set has better variety than other japanese restaurants we've been. The set lunch portion/size is similar to others and good value. Both waitresses are friendly and respectful. Overall, a good Japanese restaurant, serving fresh food like the ones found in Japan. Note - food has been half eaten when photo was taken. Delicious :)

Sushi Masa has been in Camperdown for many years which is a testament to the restaurant's quality of food. It's has always delivered on this point and I cannot remember ever being disappointed by the food here. The service is kind if somewhat erratic during busy times. (Arrive early to avoid this becoming a problem). It is this aspect that earned them the 4 (rather than 5) star review. I personally love the general feeling of authenticity - it always feels like we are in a suburban Tokyo restaurant - and am told by Japanese friends that it meets their expectations in this regard. It's a neighbourhood restaurant so it's not fine dining but it is very pleasant and kind of cool in a funny way. Lighting is softish and it is a quiet place to enjoy your meal. Highly recommended for a small group, family or couple. There are seats at the bar that are good for solo diners too.

Used to be our favorite sushi restaurant in Sydney but can’t say that anymore. The food is not as good as it used to be and they increased the prices whilst reducing serving size, not sure why you would do that when the business is clearly not doing as well as before. We’ve been going here for many years and the service was always bit slow but we didn’t mind. Just ordered some drinks and waited for our food and the quality of the food could justify the slow service (and the restaurant was always packed and busy). Now days, the restaurant is not doing well and quite empty and the food is still very slow! I think the quiet owner is cutting costs by reducing staff level and serving size which is not what you are supposed to be doing when your business is not doing well! Anyway, it’s a shame :( we won’t be going back again unless they become good again. Hopefully, they become what they used to be.

I used to have sushi takeaway often which used to be good but the quality of the food has gone down hill a lot in the past 6 months. The chef's surprisingly rude attitude was a down side of this restaurant but as long as the sushi was good it didn't worry me before, but now his attitude seems to have gotten way worse and the combination of their average food and very disrespectful chef, I will probably never go back there again. I gave it a try for the last time but ended up cancelling my order and left with huge disappointment. Such ashame, it used to be a good place.

Not the best sushi but a convinient location. We were quite dissatisfied with the sushi. The rice fell apart so we could not eat the sushi with chopsticks without it falling apart. Additionally there was a strong taste to the rice that was quite unpleasant and similar to dishsoap. Despite the disappointment the fish on top was not offensive. The miso soup was okay and the rolls were average. A spot a I may revisit out of convinience but not somewhere I would recommend to a friend.
