Sushi Gawa

Best Sushi in Peoria! I have had sushi in Phoenix and Chicago, and this is as good as you can get there. My family shared Mango Rolls, Fried California Rolls, Shrimp Tempura Rolls and Tuna Cream Cheese Roll, all top quality seafood and tuna. And the ambience has a classic Japanese vibe, clean and well-maintained. The service is top-notch, fast, friendly and cordial, with drinks refilled in a timely manner. Overall, exceeded expectations!

Easily my favorite sushi restaurant! We love going there for the vast menu. Strange as it sounds, the Pink Lady roll is just delicious, as is the 007 roll. Grab two or three different rolls to fill the plate. One item I do wish was on the menu is Tepanyaki. Need a grilled vegetable item (without noodles). Although the noodles and vegetables are delicious together. Great restaurant and great service! Always a delight!

My family has enjoyed Sushigawa for years. We travel a great deal and have never found better sushi on either coast or anywhere in between. We love the visit our serving friends while eating in the restaurant, but due to COVID we have relied on their prompt carry out. Sushigawa is our favorite restaurant!

If I could leave zero stars, I would. I never leave reviews but today is my BIRTHDAY and I made a reservation for 4 people for 6PM. I knew that my party was going to be a tad bit late, so I called to notify the restaurant that we were going to be running late and the host (man) answered the phone and said that it was fine if we were a few minutes late. Me and my friends show up for our reservation and we waited an extra ten minutes for the host while the staff just stared at us and the long line that was forming behind us. NO ONE came to check on us or have the courtesy to let us know that they were going to be right with us. After waiting for 10 minutes for someone to notice us, the host comes and we tell them we have a reservation. The man’s reply was, “it’s gone, you’re too late”. We asked how long the wait would be for us to be seated for a table and initially he didn’t respond and tried to attend to the customers behind us before answering. So then, we asked again how long the wait would be to be seated for another table. The man replies, “30-40 minutes, we have a lot of customers”. Did I mention this was AFTER we watched this man LITERALLY clean off TWO tables that were ready for customers to be seated at? Very inconsiderate and felt as if the staff didn’t even want us to eat at their restaurant for something they THEY did. Just plain awful service and completely disrespectful. They definitely lost a loyal customer.

Staff is extremely rude and unfriendly. We have eaten there many times and placed a reservation only to be 10 minutes late and to have the staff say, "That's done, you missed it, you dont have a reservation anymore". He did not even bother to ask us if we would like to still eat there or offer to put us on the waiting list; not to mention that before we got seen to talk to them about the reservation we had been waiting for like 10 minutes. So, we are just going to Sushi Ko instead. Friendly service and good sushi. Congrats you lost yourself a customer.

I would say that my experience here was pretty average which is why I am giving them 3 stars. I got the lunch special with the spicy crab and California roll. They tasted okay but were a little warm which made we worried they had been sitting out for a while. I got a salad with it which was pretty good (I love the ginger dressing that many sushi places do) but absolutely over dressed. The price was good because it was a special but the rolls weren't better than something I could buy at Aldi. If you're going to bother, try their special rolls and be prepared to spend the money on that. Finally, I'll not that the service and atmosphere were great and the table spacing made me feel very safe re: Covid. I'd like to try this place one more time and update then.
