Its a Japanese buffet, and depending on which packages u chose it will exclude certain things. We went with the premium because u don't do this often. Overall the food was good and staff was really friendly. Our packages gave use the option for sashimi and wagyu cuts. The wagyu isn't the top of the range, which is expected since its not overly expensive. One thing I found different here was you can order ramen as well. You have 90 mins in total to eat and last order is 20 mins. Ull have to take into account of cooking time and time required to order and arrive at the table. In saying that we found 45 mins into the dinner we were getting pretty full and had to slow down. Drinks are not included in the price.

For a Japanese BBQ, the place is very much subpar to say the least. Chose the standard buffet option for $53, which looked attractive but was definitely not worth it. The meats were frozen and after a short sizzle they became tough and hard to chew, and no we did not overcook it. The icecream was not bad though, the best dish of the night. Would not recommend!!!

The staff are warm and friendly! Came here for ramen but would love to return for the buffet in the future.

Hidden upstairs in Chinatown is an all you can eat Japanese BBQ. Monday to Thursday it costs 48.80 (not sure if this is for a limited time) otherwise costs 58.80 for the standard option. There are 2 other higher levels. We ate our fill. Service was quite fast. Good amount of different side dishes including agedashi tofu, takoyaki, kimchi, radish kimchi, beansprouts, seaweed salad. A downside is you can only pick one dessert (ice cream - vanilla/matcha/black sesame or apple jelly). Good value.

We have been twice. First time was promo menu (mon-thu) @ $39.80 and second time we took some friends along and upgraded to the premium menu $69.80. Excellent wagyu quality and we loved the sashimi too! Well worth the upgrade! Apart from that, their gyozas and karrage were what we kept ordering! Free beer/drink if paying w cash (premium menu)! To be fair the promo menu was also value to money, good pork belly and beef skirt! Arisa and another lady in glasses were always checking on us and carried wide smiles! Our toddler (who obviously ate for free) but has an allergy actually got their chef coming out to speak with us. How’s that for service?! We love them! Small place, cosy and feels like Japan! Can’t wait to go again <3

I have been to numerous BBQ restaurants within Sydney city, though this was my first time at Matsusaka. We ordered their premium OX Tongue, Premium Wagyu Beef Rib and Special Wagyu Rump at price around $25 per each dish. This price can be expected for higher quality meat that has been prepared and kept well but in this case I found the beef had been frozen prior to serving, with 6-7 pieces being thinly cut. Though a smallish amount, sure, if the quality is there then it can be easily forgiven. To be honest we could all hardly eat it and found the quality to be one of the worst we’ve ever had in any BBQ restaurant. We politely brought this up with the service lady but she didn’t care. In summary, if this was a one off bad quality meat that can be found in any cheap takeaway food court, it should have been addressed by staff. If this is their normal quality of meat served everyday, I don’t know how they have customers.

A JBBQ joint tucked away upstairs in chinatown (the old ramenkan). The buffet has a great selection of food on offer (including sashimi and seafood) and the staff are quick and friendly. The quality of the meat is okay and portions are small however for the variety and price you pay I think it's warranted and you can always order more. A good place to go with a group so that you can share all the dishes. Good selection of japanese drinks as well!
